Myrtle Beach Exchange/Hilton Head

Has anyone used points at Myrtle Beach? If so where did you use them at? Or has anyone stayed at any of the resorts that we can exchange into (Yachtsman, Shore Crest, Schooner, Harbour Lights, Links G&R Club, Club Regency) and are the clean and updated or old and run down?

Or, would you just stay at HH? I am afraid that HH will be too quiet for me!

Hilton Head would be much nicer if you could get in during the summer. There's plenty to do there.

My family has vacationed at both Myrtle Beach and HH and once we visited HH we all believed that HH was simply superior as a vacation destination. There is much to do there. You will not be bored, yet you will come back very relaxed.

we who grew up vacationing in North MB (before ten years ago) called MB, "The Redneck Riviera." Now that it is under "Northern Occupation" (alittle civil war humor) you have to deal with alot larger crowds and traffic. Not to mention the themed weeks that go on down there. " biker week, college week, black biker week, freak week, canadian week. These events are very popular and draw an unbelivable amount of people. And dispite all the resturants and shows and shops they build, all anyone does is "cruise" the main drag. Thousands beyond thousands of cruisers. You still have your fair share of "rednecks" but now, you see a whole lot of ohio tags. It may be a golf mecca but if your not playing, then your cruisin' or shopping. It has it's good points, such as the Sea Island hotel and The Sea Captains Resturant. THe pavilion has the best log flume ride. 100's of mini-golf and go-carts tracks. wide beachs as far as you can see. It also has the most strip clubs this side of Vegas. I always loved going to MB as a kid. Staying in NMB or Litchfield or Cherry Grove. But it has all grown it to one big mess. I just can't think of MB and HHI in the same category. It would not be an even exchange.

I can't help myself, all the other weeks were self explanatory - what exactly is freak week? LOL My parents really like Myrtle Beach - I'm starting to see them in a whole new light!!!

No idea on "freak week" but the beach area around Myrtle Beach stetches from the North Carolina Border through Myrtle Beach and then southward. The wole area sometimes referred to as the
"Grand Strand" encompasses about 60 miles of beach. You can fit in a lot of diffferent interest groups in that big an area.

I am not saying that these themed weeks are bad. They are just very popular and very crowded. They do not tend to be at the points of interest such as Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing or the Golf. They tend to just cruise. THe resturants get very crowded and it can be hard to get around. How can I put Freak week? It is not what you think. If you were there during this week you would see a lot of "booty". And I am talking about big ghetto booty that would make "Sir Mix-a-lot" happy. (He sings the rap song, "I like big butts"). I used to love it down there. I never really liked the hotels because most of them are not really nice. Just average. But a condo or house can be nice. Back in the early 1990's Disney was looking into MB area for the DVC spot. At the time no one knew that it was DVC or what it was for. Most people assumed it would be some kind of new theme park, like that one they looked at in Virginia. But i am glad that they settled on HHI. It could not be the same vacation experince. There is alot, that i do miss about MB, but because it has become so crowded that I just can not go back. Kinda like WDW during summer.

Unless one has the Spring Break mentality, I'd think HH would be the far more desireable option.

We have vacationed in MB five years and it took us three years to find a clean, safe place. We now stay at Kingston Plantation, there is an Embassay Suites hotel and numerous condos - from high rise on the beach to 2 story units. It is a gated community with a clean beach and secure buildings. It is pricey and in my opinion definitely not as luxurious as a DVC resort. There is a new condo that is 2 years old called the Brighton, from the pictures I've seen they are on par with DVC - marble baths and jacuzzis. I too have wondered about the timeshares we can trade into, I'd love some info if anyone has done that. Thanks.

We stayed at the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort (Pawleys Island) this past August. We loved it, very peaceful and relaxing. Definitely not crowded in this area. Murrell's Inlet though (restaruants), very crowded - every restaurant had an hour to an hour an half wait for dinner. You got a beeper and walked around if you were willing to wait. The only drawback was that anytime we wanted to entertain the teenagers (besides golf), we had to drive about 1/2 hour to get to the action (Myrtle Beach). I was curious too about the condos (timeshares) that are listed in the exchange site, just in case one could not exchange into one in HH.

I've stayed at the Shore Crest. I believe they only have 2 bedrooms, which are large, with 2 baths, kitchen area, and a large tub--not a jacuzzi. The amenities include an indoor pool, outdoor pool, and lazy river. The have just built a new addition across the street which has no ocean view. It appears to be well cared for. The Schooner--I stopped by there in October: it appears a little older. There are several types of rooms--it looks to be not quite as well-maintained as Shorecrest. I've stayed at the Yachtsman before it was time-share--again it has a variety of rooms/units. Nice amenities. Ocean front. Don't know much about the others.

WE stay every year at the SeaWatch Resort, its a fairfield resort and some of the units are privately owned, we get a 3 bedroom for two families during the third week of August, its on the border of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle. Don't venture south too much because its just plan crazy, but like it because its an easy drive and ocean front, the kids love being on the ocean and pretty much all we do is beach.
