Mypoints to Disney Dollars

I joined mypoints.com a couple of months ago and was able to rack up some points fairly quickly - I buy a lot of flowers from ftd.com and things from Office Depot for work, so I can use my company's money and get the points! So, once I hit 3500 I bought a $25 webcertificate at webcertificate.com (took about a week to get it via email), spent it on a Gift Card at TheDisneyStore.com. I got the card in the mail today (about 4 days), took it to TDS at the mall and came home with $25 Disney Dollars! Was it a lot of work? Nahhh, at least not after I bugged mypoints.com to award all my points. Webcertificate.com, TDS.com and the Disney Store at the mall were easy. Yay! I'm happy with free money.:Pinkbounc

EDIT: Oops, I screwed up. This should be on the Rewards Board, my bad. Feel free to move it, dear moderator. Sorry.

You didnt have any problems getting it exchanged for disney dollars? That is a great idea. Im getting near that 3500 point mark myself

No problems whatsoever. Once I had the points, it was less than 2 weeks that I had the Disney Dollars in hand. Be aware, though, that to purchase a $25 Disney Store card you have to actually have $27 in your webcertificate account. That's because when TDS attempts to verify your "credit card" (which is what you have, a temporary one, through webcertificate.com) they send this fake $2 charge through to see if the account is valid. If you have just $25 in there, it will be declined. I put $2 in my acct using a debit/check card, made the purchase throught thedisneystore.com and it worked out fine. Now I have a $2 credit at webcertificate.com, but oh well. As far as spending the Gift Card at the Disney Store at the mall for Disney $? No problem at all. I even told them why I was cashing in a gift card for Disney Bucks and they congratulated me on a good idea. Have fun!

I would actually just keep the money on my webbie card and just use it as a cc on my trip in case....heaven forbid! you should actually want to spend it somewhere besides DW!!!

Blasphemy, I know!

Here's how I got DD successfully with MyPoints.
I exchanged MyPoints for web certificates.
THEN I looked up my local mall on-line. There there was a place to buy their gift certificates on-line. So I bought their GCs with my webcertificates.
THEN I took my GC to the mall and bought DDs at our TDS.
It worked like a piece of cake!

Good Luck! :)

Did you have to pay for shipping at TDS? I have enough mypoints for a $75 gift card. But because TDS bases its shipping rates on the cost of what you ordered rather than what the items weigh, it'll cost me $9.95 in shipping for the gift card.

Now that I think about it, how stupid is this? If you buy a $25 gift certificate, you pay $6.95 in shipping. If I buy a $200 gift certificate (hypothetically speaking), I have to pay $17.95 in shipping for the same piece of plastic that weighs less than an ounce.

Good grief.

Anybody know a code for free shipping at TDS?

Thanks!

Sarah,
The shipping was free for the gift card. When you put it in your "cart" (shopping online) it shows up as shipping: $0.00. Yeah, I don't think I would have got it if I had to pay $10 for shipping. So don't worry! Buy that gift card!

It comes in an envelope (81/2 x 11) instead of a box, maybe that's why they don't charge shipping.

I thought that I should let you know, not everyone can buy DDs with gift cards. If you can, from what I understand, it is a fluke.

From what I have been told by the manager at my TDS and have read numerous times here on these boards, TDS gift cards are supposed to be for the purchase of merchandise only.

So be careful when cashing in for those TDS gift cards. I would call your own TDS and find out first if you can get DD with it. I would ask to speak to a manager to make sure that you have gotten the information "from the top." :)

Good Luck! :)

BethR is right. I wasn't able to buy DD with GC (even after I called TDS and was told twice that I could). I was almost in tears since I had $75 worth of TDS GC and wanted to use them to give my 2 DS some DD for spending money. I had made the 45 minute trip to our nearest store just to buy DD also.

Why didn't you just use the webbie card at the disney store? That's what I did! I just kept racking up the $ until I had enough to buy my passes, then to buy my DD. Of course this was in 2000 and thing may have changed, but the webbie card is just like a credit card I think.

Thanks for this post b/c I have been debating what to do about this. I will have at least $75 on my web cert. account before my trip in November. I wanted to use it at my DS to buy my park pass or either DD to pay for my meals/souvenirs. I called my DS and she said that it was okay to use the GC for park passes or DD inless it specifically states somewhere on the GC that you can't. But I am still nervous about it, since some of you haven't been able to.

But it would be nice to get to double dip and get points for using my webbies. My other option is to just use my web account to buy my park hopper online from disneyworld.com. Should I go with this option instead to be on the safe side? I just wish I knew for sure what they would say at my DS!

Print out the account info page from webcertificates.com It will have your acct# name addy and exp date just like the plastic cards from MC take this to TDS and have the CM run the # through manually.

Sometimes you have to be presistant and try a different DS or another time whe someone else is working.\

Ive done this 5 times already and its always worked.

The last time I did this the CM called the automated service of MC to verify that there was X amount on the card.

OR if you're staying on site(actually this works no matter where you're staying) just call and make a deposit over the phone

good luck and let me know how thing turn out

Not everybody has the plastic card. I spent the $6.95 to get one because I figured I'd be racking up quit a few webbies in the future. So far this year I've cashed in for $100 in Webbies, so the $6.95 doesn't seem so bad. But if you only had $25, that's a big chunk. I just didn't want to hassle of printing out the acct info and having them refuse or some other scenario.

The $6.95 for the actual card is exactly why I didn't get it. I only had $25 so it didn't make sense. If I had $100 or something I would probably do it. Then again, I didn't have a problem using the GC at TDS. I called first, and the woman told me it was fine. My Disney Store is only about 10 minutes from my house. It never occured to me that there might be difficulty when I got there, and there wasn't. If I needed park passes I would have applied the $25 to that but our UPHs are already paid for and we really are just trying to find ways to save $ on meals. I also looked at websites for Wolfgang Puck's, Planet Hollywood and some other DTD restaurants, but you can't order the gift certificates online, you have to go to the restaurant. That's why I just decided to go with Disney Dollars. Hopefully, other people can get them, too. It was really easy for me. If you live in Houston or nearby, the Disney Store at Baybrook Mall has no problem taking the card for Disney $. Good luck, everyone.

Well, it's a little late now, but something to keep in mind is that you can get $25 Rainforest GC from myPoints for fewer points than the points needed for $25 webbie.

Sue B -
I did know about the Rain Forest Cafe gift certificates, but my company gives those away as incentives already and I have 2 $25 ones. So, that's a good idea and if I didn't already have some that would have been something I would have done - we like RFC! Thanks.
