MyMagic+ test at Table Service restaurants later this month

I still don't understand how a wrist band is going to get me to spend more money than charging something to a room key or credit card. Do people actually end up spending more because they can charge to a wrist band?
Hmmmmm...... No
It may or may not get Doug to spend more, but in general, if you make it easier for someone to pay and you separate that payment from the actual process of handing over actual money, people will spend more freely.

I think thats true to, I think some people do spend more freely. On the flip side of that, I never use my KTTW card to make charges to my room. Why? Because I feel I can keep better track of how much money I spend on my debit card or with cash. It's just a preference to me. I don't think I would use the wristband to purchase things either.

That wrist issue is brought up a lot, but one little issue is that it really hasn't been determined how FP+(TM) will work. Also having the the Magic Bands(TM) does not mean you have to use FP+ but maybe it does.
Given that a MagicBand™ will never fit into the slot on the current FP™ machines, I think that it's a given that MagicBand™ wearers will need to go with FP+™.

All they have to do is add an RFID reader just like at the registers. Its the same info that they are reading off the mag stripe. Depending on how the kiosks are programed and equipped they may not even need a software change since a lot of these readers basically act like keybords.

Also Magic bands are not needed for FP+. Everything that doing for FP+ can be done with the current magnetic cards. The RFID aspect just makes it easier.

Now for the Special moments features of Magic+ you do need a band since it also has an active transmitter.

Stupid multi-quote isn't working for me at the moment...

Re: what chartle and dadddio said - if you have the MagicBand, you MUST use FP+ - that was pretty much said on the first day we got details (in the terms and conditions). What did change somewhat is the fact that they started rolling out RFID media in the form of cards, that can potentially do both. But it is also stated that once you convert to use FP+, you can't go back.

The question is, as far as in-park same-day is concerned, what is the difference? If you can still swipe and get the next available FP (or even choose a later one), it's pretty much the same, right?

Most bet that FP+ will completely replace "traditional" FP once it is fully implemented anyways, so the issue will be moot then.

There was, to my knowledge, no plans to put RFID readers on the existing kiosks, nor do they appear to have done so anywhere yet.

Which does raise an interesting question...will all day-trippers be required to go to the CM-manned (or self-service) kiosks to get FPs?

Oh...and it's MyMagic+ :)

Thats why I added some weasel words to my PP. Though now that I reread it I should have been more weasely. :)

Terms and Conditions can change. Until Bob Iger brings down the stone tablets from the top of Space Mountain and officially proclaims the rules I'm not believing anything. :goodvibes

I supposed I also should have clarified...by "MUST use FP+", I mean, you can't use traditional FP...you can choose not to use anything...but then why have a MagicBand? :)

Fashion and not feeling like a second class citizen.

I know all you KTTW on site users look down :snooty: on my flimsy "paper" ticket. :rotfl:

So I'm going to start a company making fake Magic Bands or reselling used ones so us off site people can fit in.

I must be wired wrong, if I have to hand over cash I'm much likely to let it run through my fingers because that money is already out of the bank account. I know for every transaction I put on my card that money WILL come out of my bank account, so I'm better about it. Cash is completely intangible to once its out of the ATM my credit/debit card (credit card auto pays in full every month) is something that will bank account go down, whereas the cash in hand has already made the bank account go down, so its much more fungable in my mind. My DH is the exact same way.

Why buy a fake or used one when you can buy a real one from the Mouse?

I'm the same way, I learned years ago that if I carried cash, I would spend it a lot quicker. I very rarely have cash on hand, I feel like i can keep track of my money and where it goes.

Has it been rumored whether or not off site guests can/will bet bands?
No rumor is necessary. They have specifically stated that AP holders, photopass purchasers, and on-site guests will get MagicBands for free. All others will get RFID enabled tickets but can purchase MagicBands, if they choose.
Also that may mean UT is out of the ticket selling game.
I don't know why they would be. There supposedly will be a method to add these tickets to your MDE profile which will give a person the same functionality that they would have had they purchased directly from Disney.

Fear not-- annual passes are flimsy paper too...

Everyone who gets a plain free band will be encouraged to upgrade to the soon to be popular designer bands, I imagine the magic bands will be all over wdw and online. They will include limitless styles, characters, and saying. Everyone will be encouraged to buy one, upgrade, and show off.

Here is the blog post. Dooney and Bourke and other designers are jumping in.

That's true. My family will almost certainly upgrade our bands.

I don't care what my band looks like, but I sure know DD will. She has already asked me if they are available when we go if she can pick her color. Ugh! she is Disney's dream. I think she likes the gift shops more than the rides. So I may have to upgrade hers. Any chance you could upgrade only one in your party's and not everyone's?

No information yet, but I doubt they would force everyone to upgrade.

It will be an individual purchase so you could certainly upgrade just one. In fact, it seems that everything about the bands is individual, so there's no reason to believe that upgrading one will require everyone's to be upgraded. Further, if you think about the upgrade process, it's really no different from replacing a lost or borked band, so certainly individual upgrades are possible.
