Wish me luck!

I got so many good ideas and tips from this board! You motivated me to get off my behind and get *some* of my basement cleaned out!

I placed an ad in the newspaper, made a bunch of flourescent signs, bought soda & bottled water to sell, got tables & table cloths and got lots of ones & fives at the bank for making change. I will put my boombox out with music playing.

Thanks for all the tips guys!
Kristi

Another tip- "men stuff" sells!

My husband cleaned out our garage of all his left-over building materials: 2x4's, plywood, nails etc. We made a little over $500 last weekend.
What sold for me was big baby items like a highchair, swing and playpen that went for $10 each.
All the rest were tools and wood.
I now have a clean garage and lots of extra $$ for Disney!!

Good Luck!!

If only my DH would clean out and clean up his workshop part of the basement! He is a much worse pack rat than I am. He did give me a couple of caulking guns and a face mask thing to sell last night. Maybe I can get him to dig around more today... thanks for the tip!

Our DS is only 15 mos., so I can't sell the bigger ticket baby items just yet. I will have to have another sale in a year or two to get rid of that stuff.

I am even selling alot of Disney items - hopefully these will bring in some good $$$. When you have worked for the Mouse for 11 years, you accumulate ALOT of Disney things!

As a former CM who also had a lot of Disney stuff---might I suggest ebay for the Disney stuff? Will probably bring in more $$$.

Hey Kristi

Where is your yardsale maybe we can swap junk. LOL

We are having our yardsale tomorrow also, got rained out last week. We had one at the beginning of summer made $420.00 on a Sat.

Lots more to go.

Good luck on yours

I do have a bin of things I want to eBay (not all Disney), but have been lazy about getting started. I am very intimidated by the whole eBay thing - I know I shouldn't be though! Someday...

Basically, we live in a 3 bedroom ranch. Our basement is totally unfinished. And in the 5 years we've lived here, we've accumulated so much stuff that you can barely walk through the basement, let alone find anything! :earseek: We started thoroughly cleaning out last spring and the sooner we get rid of this stuff, the better. And the yard sale seems like a quicker alternative right now. I will jump on the eBay bandwagon as soon as I have room in my basement to organize and store things properly to sell.

I managed to make about $170 today. Not too shabby for not having any big furniture-type items to sell. Nice extra chunk of change for our December trip!

I will be trying again tomorrow. I know Sundays are alot slower, but you never know! :D

Hey Kristi

We bdid not do well here in Madbury made $135 a lot of times we make that but 9:30-10:00. I am going to try 1 more time but not for another couple of weeks, We were competing with the Rochester fair that that is a big thing in our area.

Good luck

Dave

I ended up making $230 between Saturday & Sunday (after taking out $20 for the newspaper ad). Not too bad! I have to go turn that into Disney Dollars before I am tempted to spend it! Woo Hoo extra money for the December WDW trip!

I did sell quite a few Disney beanies for $2 each. I did take a hit on those, as they are brand new and were in rubbermaid bins in my basement for years. But this way someone gets to enjoy them, and I get a few bucks. The rest are going to a charity as soon as I find one. I'll just write them off on my taxes this year.

I did sell soda, juice & water - but only did about 8 of those. Not as well as I had hoped. But I only bought things we drink, so we'll use them up and it wasn't a waste.

Thanks again for all the tips from this board!
Kristi

Hey Dave - let me know when you try again and maybe I'll come by. I could visit my sister and the new baby, then check out your sale!
