My Work Horror....

I was having a great day yesterday. Before work, I went to Staples and had all the character meal invites I had made for my girls, laminated (http://s268.photobucket.com/albums/jj11/MommySharp/Disney/ check them out, they are great! I took the designs from someone else, and customized them myself - if you want one let me know!), and I was getting really excited about our trip in a few weeks.
Anyway, I job share - Someone is there from 8.30am-1pm and I'm there from 12.30pm-5pm so we overlap for 1/2 hour so I can file and she can show me what shes done for the day, etc. So anyway... I walk to the desk, and start getting my stuff out of my purse, and realize that my diet lemonade bottle is totally empty!!! First I thought I grabed the wrong bottle, but then I realized... my whole bottle had just dumped into my $900 Louis Vuitton bag :scared1:
I was so upset!!! I stood there and started to take the stuff out of my purse, and my job share person started yelling at me to get out, and started making a big scene (she didn't want me to get anything wet, which is understandable)!! So fine, I went into the bathroom with my water-logged purse and dumped it out in there. When I came back out, I had my purse and all the contents of it in my hands. I had just bought one of thoes big "cups" of gum, and the water had gotten in there, so I went to throw it out at the desk (where job sharer was sitting), and I missed the garbage can and it kind of exploded all the gum out! She threw herself out of the chair and walked around yelling (LITERALLY) that I was throwing things at her!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I was so mad and upset about everything, I almost started crying!!! Because of the scene she was making, the boss came up to me and semi-jokingly asked me if I needed to go home! Then the job share lady complained the whole rest of the time she was there that it smelled, and she was upset about that.
I'm not asking anyone to hold my hand because of my purse, truthfully, the purse isn't why I'm upset at all, its because of the way this woman acted. I don't know if shes jellous because of my bag (its a possability, its a nice bag!) or what, but she made a total scene, and really embarrased me, when there was no need for it.
Now I have to go to work today and see her again.... really not looking forward to that. Shes done some shady things in the past, like lying about me to the boss, but this was over the top for me!
Also, I know shes going to be mad at me today because one of the Agents gave her something to do, and she never did it, but hid it from me, and never told me about it. The agent came over looking for it, and I told him I didn't know anything about it. He found it, and I did it for him. Shes going to be mad because she doesn't like me to do any of her projects...... she made the comment one day that "I'm not letting you do any of my projects because you don't give me any of yours." I was just like :confused3 OK.
So anyway, just wanted to vent, I'm just really upset about the whole thing, and I just hope that its all blown over by today. Thanks for letting me vent!!!

I guess you should be glad you don't have a $5K Coach purse. :confused3

Well first of all, as I stated, its really not about the purse. My bag is fine, and if I need to get it cleaned, I will. It was about how my job sharrer reacted. Second - Coach has a $5K purse?!?!?

I guess we have different ideas of what a bad day is.

:scared1: I hope you were able to get another diet lemonade.

Yes it is. You find it brag-worthy to say your purse cost $900. If you think that is an expensive purse, and you were foolish to put a container of liquid in it, then I was just pointing out that you should be glad you don't have a better purse.

And maybe I exaggerated the price a bit for dramatic effect - is $1200 OK with you? I think all of those "designer purses" are incredibly ugly, so I am ignorant as to how much the really cost. I know vendors hawk the knock-offs for $20 on DC streets. :lmao:

If this is a bad day for you, you lead a very charmed life.

When you go in to the office today pretend that NOTHING happened yesterday. Nothing at all. Just come in, sit down, start going over the work, etc. If she brings it up just say, "It's no big deal, I got it all cleaned up". Absolutely do NOT take the bait from her and let her get you going or talking about what happened. Seriously, say nothing about the incident. I can imagine that she's going to bring it up and try to get the drama going again today, it sounds like she's a real handful.
And OP, you may get flamed because of mentioning the cost of the handbag and it's maker. Subtly mentioning that it was an expensive purse or designer handbag would have been enough info for us to get the idea

Yeah, I'm 100% not going to talk to her about it - I hope to not really have to talk to her much at all - thank goodness its only a 1/2 hour!
Also, yeah, I knew I would get flammed about the LV part - I don't know why people get so :snooty: when it comes to people actually mentioning the maker, but whatever, I love my bag, and I'm proud of the fact that my DH bought it for me for my first mothers day :lovestruc . It really means a lot to me! We can't afford to get another one!!!!
And again, as I said, its not about the bag, its about how embarassed I was because of the scene this woman made. I liked her at first, but now her true colors are showing, and they ain't pretty! Oh well!

When I came back out, I had my purse and all the contents of it in my hands. I had just bought one of thoes big "cups" of gum, and the water had gotten in there, so I went to throw it out at the desk (where job sharer was sitting), and I missed the garbage can and it kind of exploded all the gum out!

I would have stayed in the bathroom & took care of the problem instead of bringing stuff out & throwing it in the trash can right beside her when she was already upset.

Then the job share lady complained the whole rest of the time she was there that it smelled, and she was upset about that.

What smelled? The trash can? Couldn't the trash have been taken out right away when it happened? That's why we keep Lysol in our office, especially when the smokers come in to pay a bill and they reek of smoke! We spray like crazy when they leave!

Well, I don't know if I'd call it a "horror" but it is annoying.

I'd act like nothing happened. If she started up, I'd probably say "That was yesterday, this is today. What do I have left to do this afternoon?". Just don't take the bait, as a PP said.

I did throw everything out that needed to be thrown out, but I can't throw out my wallet and checkbook and such. The gum - I thought I was going ot keep it, but then realized that it wsa icky on my way out, and thats why I threw it out at my desk.

I don't know, she started complaining about the trashcan smelling because before I went into the bathroom I threw out a package of my kids crayons. I did get rid of it right away, she just kept complaining about it anyway.

I think it's not about mentioning the brand of purse; it's the mention of the price that can seem "braggy". I think everyone would understand that it was a nice handbag if you had just mentioned the maker or that it was a designer bag (or even just that it was your favorite bag), but the addition of the price seems unnecessary and so could seem like you were just mentioning it to brag.

And honestly if it wasn't about the bag and was really about the coworker it's even more unecessary to talk about the price. You could have left out that info and the point of the story would have remained unchanged. I can certainly understand being unhappy about a difficult to replace bag possibly being damaged, though!

I agree that the best course of action at this point would be to pretend as though nothing happened.

So how's your purse?

I don't really know! Its drying out right now. The inside seemed OK last night, but the leather is another story. DH called LV, and they have a dry clearner that they recommend. I can FedEx the bag to them, and they can clean it, and FedEx it back. I'll see.

Yes it's all about the $900.00 brag bag!

I don't know if shes jellous because of my bag (its a possability, its a nice bag!)

It's days like those that make you want to crawl back into bed and start over. Not everyone will agree on what is a bad day to them, but it was a bad day to you and your feelings should not be criticised.

I personally don't have a purse fetish, i enjoy my $30 purse, but if I had an expensive bag like that I would be upset about that more than my snotty co-worker. Hope it's not ruined.

I'd call that a bad day, not the end of the world but yeah it was a bad day and everyone has one occasionally. But par for the course the snotty lot on this board have to pick on something. They always have a reason to negate someones feelings or put down a poster who chooses to do something they consider trivial. Ignore them and remember it's not their opinon that's important, in fact they mean very little.

I know no matter what bag I'm carrying it's a pain to have to clean up a spilled drink, expecially if it requires some sort of special cleaning. Hopefully it will all come out all right in the end. You didn't say but it didn't get your printing did it? That would have been even worse.

As for the coworker, what a drama queen. (bet you can tell which posters on this thread would have been right there with her moaning about the spill instead of being helpful and handing you napkins or the trash can or at least being human enough to understand that your accident is not all about her). :rotfl: I'd just ignore anything she has to say with a cheerful "I've taken care of that. Time to work on today's items."

Good news is that it's a new day and good leather and well made purses can really take a beating and still survive the cleaning process. Hope you get it sorted out.

Definitely go in like nothing happened.

What I'm curious about (other than wanting to see a picture of a $900 purse ;)) is when you say you were upset, how upset were you? Did you start to freak out and start flinging things around? Or just mildly upset? It could be that your coworker was just responding to your actions and felt like you were breezing into the office all drama and excitement, after a calm morning. Or it could be that she's a nut. I guess it depends on how your demeanor was when you were going through the upset, KWIM?

Just don't bring it up, and act like it never happened. Hopefully things will be back to normal before you know it. :thumbsup2
