I have remained quiet on all the events of the week because I know my opinions might not be popular or understood by most here. For the record, I am disgusted by Sandusky and those involved in this tragedy. However, I have to say this:

I've never been a Penn State fan and never will be, but for this one day and for all the ones in Blue and White at Penn State now or long ago graduated, who had NOTHING to do with the disgusting and vile acts of a few, I will cheer on the Nittany Lions to victory against Nebraska and hope for healing for all.

GO LIONS!

May I just say Thank YOU to the OP, before the haters get a hold of this thread.

I too share in your sentiment-

As a graduate of Penn State, I am horrified, appalled, and yes, saddened.

If you have never been a student or attended a game, you will NEVER understand the force of the spirit of Penn State. You can't. The spirit of PSU is contagious at every event- from Football games to graduation. It is full of hope- hope for success, hope for a future, hope.

That spirit remains a bond that is felt throughout the country for all graduates. It is incredible.

May those there today clearly shout "WE ARE" and hear that resounding "PENN STATE" and begin to heal.

While I can understand this, I also think accountability and justice have to come before healing. Yes, 99% of the people there have nothing to do with this scandal. But a good chunk of those students seem more upset that the football king has been dethroned than the fact that too many grown "men" turned their backs on this situation.

Even today as I watch the game, so many seem to be finding answers and closure in a silly football game. That is all this game is and the inability to put a game in perspective kept at least five men from doing the right, common sense thing. It was this religious attitude toward football that probably kept a 28 yr. old man from calling the police immediately and it was the other adults (Paterno, Curley, etc) who thought about the impact on their program (which shouldn't have even been on the radar) before they thought about the kid(s).

Call me a hater - I don't care. McQueary should have had the attitude "I AM"…as in "I am a man who has to do the right thing now". The "We Are" seems to only have conflicted him.

I agree with you 110% OP! I am not a PSU grad, but my stepsister, my BFF and her DH are, as well as many of my friends. My DS looked at one of the satellite campuses this summer during his college visit tour.

Penn State is more than football, but as another poster said, Penn State pride is in everything from football to graduation (and I'm adding "to ice cream"!) I didn't have to graduate from there to know that. Step one foot on that campus and you "feel" it! I had the awesome experience of sitting in the student section for a couple of games with my stepsister, back in the mid-80's, and the feeling is completely electric. It can't be described.

Since this IS about football though, and what happened because of football coaches, I will say that my heart aches for the current football team. These guys are innocent bystanders. They knew nothing. They are not responsible. They came to PSU to play ball for a top notch team. Many of them probably have NFL dreams. They are being punished for the bad choices and decisions of a few people. I am not taking away from the victims of the sexual abuse. Obviously this is a terrible thing...unimaginable really. But the students, the players, the other faculty members, who are innocent, do not deserve to be punished by all of the awful things people are saying about Penn State as a university.

The other thing that bothers me about this story is that our PA governor investigated Sandusky when he was attorney general. When is HE going to step down? Why isn't anyone calling for HIS resignation?? Just curious.

Yes, it sucks for them. But isn't a little too soon too worry about them before we even know just how many young kids were effected by this?

I don't hate. I just feel sorry for people proudly associating themselves with an institution that enabled the rape of a child.

See, THIS is what bothers me. Nobody condones what happened, but Penn State has educated hundreds of thousands of good, honest, hardworking and accomplished people. Graduates are proud of their alma mater, and why shouldn't they be? I'm sure that PSU is not the first, and will not be the last, university to have a terrible scandal like this.

???? I don't understand what you mean. My BFF is a proud PSU grad. Are you saying that she is guilty because she went to PSU?? I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I really don't understand.

Eh I'd take it personal if my name was sandusky.....

As a former PSU student and married to a current one all I can say is we will heal after all we are Penn State

Agree!! No need to feel sorry for us. We know it's a horrible, horrible situation, but what should we do? Burn the place down???

Do yourself a favor don't read on, its all Downhill from here

After that ridiculous riot, I'm not too worried about the 'innocent' not involved in this whole debacle. Seems like football tradition is more important there than other things, like children's wellbeing. Not impressed with Penn State at all, but then I never understood why the big business of sports is linked to educational institutions in the first place.

Penn State's pride has been very tarnished, IMO. Abuse, scandal, riots - hard to have much pride in that.

On the other thread its been suggested psu close its doors so don't be shocked if they answer yes
