I swear I didn't call the dr this fast when my kids were sick as babies!
My 4 1/2 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel started throwing up after he ate this morning. He threw up all his food, about 4 times.

He seems okay, not lethargic or anything but he keeps gagging like he wants to throw up more. So I called the vet and they said let him rest about an hour and see if it stops. If not I have to take him in.
He has been sleeping on my lap for about 20 minutes and gags every 5 minutes or so.
The kids would have to be so obviously ill for me to call the dr, but this little guy throws up a few times and I panic.
I just love this little doggie--he really is my best little friend.

Hope the kids don't start questioning why I don't call the dr everytime they cough! here he is with one of the cats--he is a little bigger now, but not much. (sorry the pic is so big, still learning how to post them)

Awww! He's so cute! Sorry he isn't feeling well.

Kids can tell you if they feel bad (once they are old enough to talk). Animals can't. You are just being a good doggy mom when you look out for him! The vet won't mind you calling. I hope he feels better, and that he isn't sick.

So cute! My brother and his gf are getting one in the next couple of months. She's having a hard time finding the rust/white ones though! Believe me, I know how you feel! My Min Pin is 1 1/2 and I'm always concerned about her! One morning I woke up to find she had found (God only knows where) a whole pack of gum and eaten it! :scared1: I wasn't as concerned until I googled it :scared1::scared:. Story after story about people's dogs dying from eating a couple of pieces of gum (with xylitol) and my 7 lbs. dog ate an entire pack! But she never threw up, I took her to the vet and they did blood work, but she never acted any different. My bf has a puggle that ate a bunch of grapes (also on the no-no list for dogs) and he got sick ALL NIGHT.

He is so cute! I thought he was a stuffed animal in that pic for a second. :goodvibes

Animals seem to be so much harder to figure out than kids. They don't get the routine stomach bugs and colds that people do, and they can quickly succumb to things that might look minor in kids. I would be calling the vet for every thing out of the ordinary too. In fact in the last few months I have had to call our vet at home (he is a family friend) because I caught one of them swallowing a long string, and later a paniced call to the office when I found out that one ate some of DD's antibiotic pills.

I know I would rather call and be wrong than put it off too long.

He is adorable!! We have a Cavalier who is a tri-color.

I hope your puppy is o.k.

Awwww, I can't blame you! He's about the most adorable thing I've seen in a long while :lovestruc

Take good care of that little treasure

I hope he he get's well soon!

my pom has been sick off and on since sat with the runs. Did I mention that I just had my whole house recarpeted on sunday? I came home yesterday sick from work to find my dog not walking on his back leg it was sticking straight back . I thought maybe dislocated jumping off bed. Our last one broke a leg that way but dad and hubby think i was crazy to call vet. Took her to vet 4 hrs later her still not showing any pain but not bearing weight. Get to vet put her on the table for him guess who now can bear weight on it looking at the vet like im the nut. Still has the runs and you have to watch them they crash with dehydration fast . Good luck to you say a prayer for me new carpet please.

Adorable puppy! Did they not recommend Mylanta or something similar? I have a Toy Poodle with a very sensitive stomach and we were told this was safe for use in dogs. We have to use it fairly often and it really does help.

I'm sorry he's sick. He's just about the cutest lil puppy I've ever seen, though!

What a sweet face! I just wanna kiss him all up. I hope he starts feeling better quickly.

Aww! What a cutie! Maybe he's choking on a cat furball. Try setting a bowl of water in front of him.

:lmao: I have a call into my vet and am waiting for a call back for a doctor consultation. Before I called, I called my dad (a doctor) and asked the question "will the vet think I'm a wacko?"

You're not alone!

PS - my dad thought I had a valid concern and encouraged me to call so I think you were right to do so as well. Though I have to admit my dad gets a little mushier about his granddogs than he did his grandkids sometimes!

You're not a wacko. I just had to take my 14 yr old cat to the vet because she was more lethargic than usual and then vomited some Thurs AM. After bloodwork and tests to rule out feline leukemia and the FIV, they said it might have been a low-level infection and gave her antibiotics and a fluid pack due to her being dehydrated. Went back Friday afternoon for another fluid pack and she's just now starting to get her appetite and energy back. :)

Bet the vet thought I was a bit nutso because I couldn't tell her if the cat was eating, drinking or using the litter box (hard to tell when one has 11 cats....) :)

Didn't care. I wanted my loyal kitty well. :thumbsup2

I know you said your dog was throwing up but in case your dog gets sick from "the other end" my vet told me to give my dog a small saucer of Gatorade. It really helps!

I think they probably appreciate that you care so much about your dog. I took my shih tzu to the vet today for his annual check up and they clip his nails and he has an irrational fear of this, but I have never witnessed it firsthand b/c the groomer always does it. Anyways, he was just screaming and it made me cry, more like sob. It was rather embarassing, but I have really never heard him make such noises. They had to have a vet tech restrain him while the vet did the clipping. He deals well with everything else, shots, blood being drawn, etc.

I hope that your pup is better. I have a cavalier as well. A tricolor. She went through a barfing stage as well. Nothing like that though. Warm wishes your way...:goodvibes
