Trying to book a stay for Christmas, Dec. 28-Jan. 4. The resort and room type is available for every night except Dec.31. Would you book what you could and wait list the one night or would you book the complete stay at SSR (where there is availability for the whole week)? Wondering what the chances are of a NYE wait list coming through.
I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

If I really wanted to be at WDW on those dates, I would book SSR and then waitlist the entire stay at my first (and second) choices. Then I'd hope for pixie dust.

FWIW, there are already lots of waitlists for NYE only. I don't think many will come through. People, especially those who own at the smaller or more popular resorts, tend to book NYE on the first day the window opens. In my experience, there's not a lot of movement for that night. It's the most popular night of the year to be at WDW. But some people do get lucky - maybe you will be one of them this year.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I think that is what I will do! After all, the most important thing is being at Disney.

I would consider a different approach, especially if SSR is fewer points than your other choices.
Book the first half of your stay through NYE at SSR then book the remaining days at your other resort. Then wait list the SSR portion. Shorter wait lists have a greater chance of being filled. Worst case scenario you are at Disney, end at the other resort but have a split stay. But it depends on how the split stay idea sounds to you.

I considered a split stay but the hubby was not interested.

Points loaded today and I booked SSR for Christmas (with AKV as a wait list) and AKV for spring break. As my first grade students say "Easy, Peasy, Lemon Squeezey!! Guess it's time for some trip countdowns!

Not sure how you can say with such certainty that there are already lots of waitlists for NYE only? In the past week I booked SSR for NYE as part of a longer stay with multiple resorts and just this tuesday switched it to OKW because that's where we really wanted to spend NYE and it openned up for online booking. I also booked a somewhat last minute trip several years ago that included NYE. Based on my experience, I'm 2 for 2 getting new years eve inside the 7 month window. I too wish the OP Good Luck!!

I would book all your nights that you want and waitlist for NYE.

I just added a night to our October F&W vacation in October. I waitlisted on Sunday for a one bedroom Boardwalk view at BWV. I didn't think there was much hope of getting it but I checked today and the waitlist cleared!

Peoples' plans change all the time. You have a good shot at getting your waitlist filled.
