Well, it's been a long time coming, since my trip was in January, but I finally have time to post a trip report!

The Cast:

Me! 21 year old female, from the cold world of Canada, celebrating her University graduation.

My BF: Poor guy who got dragged along on a Disney whirlwind because he didn't say "NO" before the tickets were booked...

Well, my Disney obsession is fairly recent - a trip for my 20th Birthday last year sparked it, and now I can't get enough of anything Disney. I work in a jewelry store that sells the "Disney Swarovski" figurines, and my co-workers are disturbed by the fact I talk to Mickey...

Our trip was a long time in the making, planning from August 2004 and making reservation changes right up until January 2nd, 2005. Our trip was from January 4 - 14. Bless the new MYW packages - our tickets wound up being dirt cheap as we stayed 10 days. I also cashed in on the Winter Discount, staying in the POR at a remarkably good rate!

We're both students, so money was tight, but thanks to the great God of Student Loans, I got a little boost right before the trip... ;)

TO give you an idea of the weather we were leaving, it averaged -30'C the entire time we were gone, basking in the 20+ weather of Florida... *evil grin* Sorry anyone from Calgary...we were warm...you lost your eyelashes if you steped outside.

I had never flown w/o my parents before, so this was a very new experience. So new, in fact, I left our boarding passes at the Westjet counter in Toronto, and didn't realize until halfway through customs. Oops! The BF held onto them from then on...

When the plane finally touched down in Orlando, I was just like the little kids around me. I had my Disney Fantasia hat on (the blue sorcerer hat w/ flashing ears) and was bouncing in my seat waiting for the *slow* people around me to disbark the plane. Come on people, we're in Orlando! Move it!
Needless to say, the pilot thanked me for not putting my hat on earlier, as the flashing ears might have distracted nearby planes...

We made the mistake of *not* taking a yellow cab to our hotel - and what a mistake that was. We were approached by a guy who was parked in the Taxi lot who said he'd take us the POR for $50 - which was about what I had figured. However, when we got in his van, the dashboard was held on by duct tape and the seatbelts were literally *TIED* to the seats. Very un-nerving, and I kept my cellphone in my hand the entire trip, with 9-1-1 waiting on speed dial. We did arrive safely, but learned a valuable lesson about Florida transportation.

I don't think I'll ever forget the look on my BF's face when he steped out of that van, and took a look at POR. While it's not as high-end or fancy as some of the hotels we have stayed in, the whole atmosphere took his breath away, and I could tell I had a Disney convert. From then on, he was as excited as me.

Checkin was a little difficult - they had just moved over to MYW packages, and the staff were still unsure how to create the room key/passes/charge card combos, but everyone was pleasant and I was just glad to be there!

The room was comfortable - a King size bed, in one of the Magnolia builidings, with a great view of the fountain in the courtyard. The many pools are awesome! I knew we'd make good use of those!

While my BF begged me to sit still and take a nap (our flight left at 11:00 p.m. on Jan 3 and it was now 3:00 on Jan 4, and I do NOT sleep on planes), I grabed the map to find the bus shelter and was out the door, him trailing behind, asking about where food was. Why do men always put food before all else?

We rounded the corner, and I could see the bus shelter through the trees. I could also see a bus labelled "Magic Kingdom" coming around the corner. Without a second thought, I lept through the bushes (yes, through the bushes) and into the bus shelter, screaming "Magic Kingdom! We're going to the Magic Kingdom!!! Hurry!!! Run!!! It's the bus for the Magic Kingdom!!!". The bus driver was very nice, although, probably a little surprised to see a girl leap from between the trees into view, wearing a gigantic blue Sorcerer hat, a red Canadian Olympic team jacket, screaming at a mass coming down the path. Those bus drivers must see alot of nuts like me.
