I posted this in my PTR but since I only have one poster who replies to my sad, sad PTR, I wanted to ask here also....

I will be in WDW in 6 days and a few hours ago I broke one of my toes!!! I have to admit I break one of my pinky toes atleast once a year (it has no feeling in it anymore), and it's been 7 months since I last broke it.....but this time I broke the one next to my pinky toe and it is pretty bad! My sofa jumped out in front of me while I was walking by and grabbed my toe and snapped it backwards! :rolleyes1

It was visibly out of place and hurt like heck to put back in place and tape to my other toes! I didn't go to the doctor (yet) because I know the drill, but this time my entire foot is swollen! I'm gonna see what it looks like in the morning, but with no insurance, I really don't want to go to a dr again to only be told that all that can be done is tape it and take some ibuprofen! I really hope it feels ok by Sunday!

In the past my toe feels better within a day or two and it doesn't really hurt to walk by the next day, but I've never done it where my foot has swollen as opposed to just the toe. Anyone break a toe before and/or have an opinion on if this is going to hurt all next week at WDW? Obviously I'm going to take ibuprofen, elevate it, ice it.... but is there any other suggestions??

TIA!!

if your foot is that swollen:scared1:, and its been a couple of days, I would get an xray.....you could have broken a foot bone....or a proximal joint (the one that connects the toe to the foot)...if your foot is brokem u need a wheelchair for WDW the dr could write you a note/ rx so you can rent one at the parks. hopefully you already have crutches. I know it seems like a lot of trouble (and $$$), but if it isn't like your other incidents thats pretty alarming. I broke my toe last summer and it still hurts when the kids step on it :confused3 I even wore the ugly boot which did nothing. Those of us that are accident prone usually know when its bad. :rolleyes1. Ice it down and keep it up!....GL

Ouch, so sorry!! I broke the little bone that runs from my pinky toe down the side of my foot. I had to wear a small boot for a few weeks. It was not a full leg boot, just the flat shoe kind so I wouldn't bend my toe.

DS broke the same bone & bad mom that I am did not take him in for a week! Since he was running & continuing to jump around, I just figured it was a twist. :headache: By the time he was seen, it was already starting to heal. He also wore a shoe boot. In both cases, we just tripped and landed wrong.

The doc said that discloration around the area where the toe meets the foot is a sign. Hoping you did not break it but a swollen foot does not sound like a good sign! Ice it & I hope the swelling is gone in the am.

I just broke it earlier today. My dad said "How do you know it's actually broken?" Ummmm, the fact that it was pointing the wrong direction and I couldn't move it seemed pretty convincing....but I guess I could be wrong. :confused3 The foot swelling is really what is worrying me. I've had it up all evening and iced it a while. The swelling in my foot is a little better. Guess only time will tell! Thanks!

You're not a bad mom!!! I would have thought my sons were ok too if they were still running and jumping like normal, but I understand what you mean! So far no discoloration! Maybe I'll be lucky! Hope so! Thanks! :)

I did this exact thing last year. My vacuum cleaner jumped out at me and when I looked down, my middle toe was displaced. I reset it myself and hobbled around for the rest of the day as it was my daughters' dance rehearsal/recital weekend. I didn't have time to visit the doctor. My foot was swollen and bruised and it hurt like a you know what!!! I'm sorry to say that it actually hurt for over 7 months. I really should have gone to the doctor. I think when the toe is displaced it involves the foot bones and not just the toe bone. I was stupid and if it ever happens again, I'll be marching myself to the doctor. Over a year later it still hurts at times. :sad2:

I'm sorry this happened so close to your trip. Get it checked out and if you need a wheelchair for Disney have your doctor write you a note.

Best of luck!!!!

A similar situation happened to DD. She has had to have many ingrown toenail surgeries, (6 total) and one soon before WDW just to make sure no toes will hurt with all of the walking. So the day before WDW, we decide to move a volleyball net together. I grab one end, she on the other and I accidentally push her way and hit her a little. When we are putting it down DD realizes her toe is gushing with blood and the toenail had completely raised up! Again I remind you the day before WDW:sad2: It was tough to figure out what to do, but once in WDW, we had it all figured out!

I would suggest you wrap it in 2 band-aids and lots of guaze. That is what we did for DD and she never felt her toe-problem. The only time it hurt a little was when swimming in water, but if you let that foot just kind of hang and the other one do all the work, you will be fine:thumbsup2 Hope you get to feeling better! Trust me your trip will still be magical, ours was!:wizard:

With your foot being that swollen, it would surprise me if it was *just* the toe. And, with your trip looming so quickly, the quicker you can get it x-rayed and looked at, the better.

I'm sorry this happened! I've been worrying about my knees and back causing me problems at WDW...it never occurred to me to consider "silly" injuries (not that yours is silly...I think you know what I mean...I hope).

Hope you're feeling better soon. BTW, you don't need a note from the dr to rent a wheelchair at WDW.

Those darn household objects really like to jump out and trip me up too!! ;)

That story made me cringe!! :scared1: I'm gonna try the band-aid thing even if there's no pain by Sunday.

I know exactly what you mean! I've been worried about my bad ankle and didn't even think that I might do something smooth like break my toe! :lmao:

Hope you're feeling better soon. BTW, you don't need a note from the dr to rent a wheelchair at WDW.
Thanks for the info! I'll get one if it I need it!

This morning I woke up dreading getting out of bed because I was so worried that my toe/foot would hurt to stand on.....luckily there was almost no pain! I do have a faint bruise at the base of my toe but the swelling in my foot is down and my toe only hurts a little now. I put on snug fitting socks and wore my sneakers and have been walking very carefully and making sure not to put pressure on my toe. I'm still elevating when I can. I'm being extra careful just to make sure I don't injure it any further or incase it gets worse.

OMG I break my big toes all the time and girl I know you must be in pain..Ouch so sorry this has happened, I too usually do not go to the doctor as I also know the drill, however the last 2 times I have as it has also involved more than just the toes...I would go to the doc and at least get a note just for safetys sake if nothing else...Oh and by the way I am going right now to sub on to your TR :thumbsup2

My toe and foot are feeling much better so I'm hoping it will be ok but since I have my trip coming up, I think I'll break down and see a dr tomorrow. I'd hate for it to slow me down next week!

A few years ago our family was at rope drop at Disneyland, and my son who was 7 at the time was so excited he was fidgeting instead of standing still. He backed up into me (he in sneakers, me in flip flops) and the heel of his shoe caught the tip of the toenail of my big toe and pushed it up and off. I remember hobbling off to First Aid through the rope drop crowds leaving a trail of blood and praying no one stepped on it on their rush to get to the rides.

Renting a ECV might be a possiblity..I don't think you should be walking all over Disney with a broken bones.

:crazy2: :faint: That brings back memories of when I slammed my finger in the car door when I tried to catch the door just as I realized I was about to lock the keys in my car. I instinctively pulled my finger out as soon as it got slammed. My finger came out but my fingernail did not!

I think it's probably best just to go ahead and amputate. It's a small toe, afterallll... :)

Glad it's feeling better!!!!! I hope it's all back to normal and you're able to have a wonderful pain-free trip!!!!!!!!!! :)

I can sympathize! I broke the exact same toe 4 days before going to Las Vegas. My kids mini trampoline jumped right out in front of me. ;) I went to a podiatrist and she gave me a walking boot/cast. I do not think I would have survived all the walking I did without that thing! Might want to get one just in case. The extra cushioining and support will protect the toe and make your foot feel much better at the end of the day.

Hope it is feeling better!
