it'll probably make it. But just barely. keep the presents covered if you want.

I'll be vacuuming needles in April. THIS is the year! The year we tae advantage of the after Christmas sales, and get an artificial tree. I never thought I would say it, because I love the smell of a live tree in my house, but I realized, after a few days, I can't smell it anymore, so what is the big deal?

Next year I will not be forced to put it in front of the heater - I am thinking that is the big problem -
:(

For the last 2 years we have paid a little more and gotten the Frasier Fir.

The first year the man at the tree place told me it wouldn't shed needles as much and I didn't really believe him but thought I'd give it a try. He was so right.

It drops needles but nothing like the tree's I have had in the past. My tree has been up since December 10th I think and there isn't a ring of needles at the base at all!

Edited: I forgot to add that I really hope your tree makes it!.

We cut our Spruce down on Dec. 2nd, and it is raining needles also! I have also dilligently watered mine daily. I was hoping to leave it up until New Years, but don't think I will be able to.

I bought a Douglas Fir and it is raining needles. It doesn't help that we have a kitten that likes to climb the tree.

Thank goodness I have a ceramic tile floor that makes it easy to sweep them up.

geez
so Spruce, Douglas Fir's and Blue Sprice are all having the same issues

odd....

I think mine will be out the window Monday!!!

(literally out the window - Mark brings in the sawzall (sp?) chops her up and out she goes...)

We usually get a Frasier and this year we got a Douglas, just to try something else. It still smells nice but it is losing needles like crazy. Oh well, back to the Frasier's next year. The Douglas doesn't have as sturdy of branches either.

We also bought a Blue Spruce this year (had a Fraiser Fir last year and loved it!)

The Blue Spruce has been shedding needles faster than Gypsy Rose shed her clothes during her performance routine! :guilty:

DH and I just said last night that the tree will be out the door on either Monday or Tuesday. And we always leave our tree up until around Jan. 11th. :guilty:

One of the reasons for artificial trees. It has to last until Christmas. Just watch it very close when the lights are one.

We bought an artificial pre-lit tree from Sears--the brand said Decorator's Best on the tag in the store, but Santa's Best on the box. It looks very realistic and we're very happy with it. I would go check it out after Christmas and see if you like it.

I figure if I want the pine smell, I can always get a wreath or something like that to put in the house. :)

I have the same problem, as do all of my neighbors who have a "real" tree, so perhaps there was a problem with this year's crop? I had mine shipped directly from NC, my other neighbor went and cut his, and the other bought his from a BS troop. We all followed directions (I've been doing this for over 25 years) and the tree is in the same spot as always.

The last time I had a real tree (about 5 years ago), I had the same problem. I usually put mine up about mid-December (the 15th) and I was seriously concerned about the tree "making it" until Christmas day. No more live trees for us anymore. I just put up the fake one and burn the balsam and fir Yankee Candle! :teeth:

I have a frasier again this year. I put it up on the Fri after Thanksgiving, put tree saver in the water, fill it every mornng...

The needles are still supple and it hasn't dropped ANY!

I think something some people take for granted is that the trees were all cut down months ago (unless you cut your own). If you put your tree up Dec 15, that tree sat that much longer in the lot without water.

I bought a Douglas at Home Depot on the 10th and its doing pretty good so far considering I have 2 kittens, and 5 dogs...

It has slowed a bit on water consumption, but I think it will make it to New Years without an issue

We did the same thing, got it the same day. Water has slowed down and needles are starting to fall. Not a good year for trees I think.
