Since Yoho has shared with us his vision for Epcot, I thought maybe I'd share my dream for WDW transportation. While this is no technical blueprint it is not something I thought up overnight either. I look & dream & scheme about it every time I'm there (aren't we Disnuts just a little bit scary?).

Anyway, my plan calls for making the Epcot Monorail station another main hub with a continuation (third loop) to MGM and then onto AK. This is a fairly simple route with only two stations at areas with plenty of room for their expansion.

From there I see continuous bus or light rail transportation to the AK station from two locations AKL & a combination BB & CSR loading point.

For the AKL I see a realization of one of Walt's dreams (as Landbaron jumps wildly up & down), either a moving walkway (like the airports have) or a an update of the Wedway people mover. This is not a long haul, it could be easily covered, landscaped and themed and provide AKL (Deluxe Guests) with a one of a kind transportation opportunity.

Now, I have no dream as far as DD is concerned and I know that is a major concern to Disney and will be included in any new transportation ideas...I just don't have any...

Certainly plans to get guests from the Epcot hotels to the TTC's would have to be provided but I could see a major reduction in long haul bus travel and the allure of 21st century Disney style transportation back into the mix is something we purists would applaud...

So anyway, that's my transportation dream for you to add to, shoot down or compliment...

I've always wondered, and maybe someone around here knows, what is the reason why we don't see more of the WEDway people mover system around the World?

Cause Ei$ner's CHEAP!!!!

Sorry. I tried. ReallyI did. But I just couldn't resist!!!

Thanks Pirate for some more thoughts on transportation. I do the same thing myself. However, my wish list is a little different than yours. Sure, monorail connections to all four parks is a nice start. But, if you don't connect more resorts to the system, it's not very useful. The TTC-Epcot loop seems to be used mostly by MK monorail resort guests. Seems only a small number of folks use it to hop from MK to Epcot. Sure is true of us. For that matter, we rarely ever get on the monorail since we stay at the All Stars and Moderates. We bus or drive directly to the park we are going to see. I don't see us using the Studios/AK loop if our resort was not connected.

I would love to see another rail transportation option available at more resorts. I've seen a bunch of different urban rail systems that would fit the bill. Certainly, it is a far more difficult and expensive plan to link resorts to the monorail system, but hey we are dreaming.

I don't think that rail should be used in WDW. It's so old fashioned. I would love to see transporation like the Tommrowland Transit Authority. They are pollution free and are a lot of fun too. Get rid of all of those busses.:bounce:

tf, do you think I am referring to locomotives???

Well, no. I would much rather see monorails or the people mover type transportation between resorts.

and those are both forms of rail transportation.

Personally I think the monorail is a bit of a non starter. Over the years theres been all the rumours (rail to the airport etc) but it just cant cope with all the guests i t needs to carry. Lightrail is definitely the answer if you ask me. A line from ASM (end of line) to AK then on to Studios then EPCOT then DD is my suggestion. Im just a little surprised that Disney doesnt think harder about this when they build their new resorts etc, rather than just buy another 50 busses - any ideas on this?

Forgive me, I guess the phrase "light rail" has come to be identified solely with electric wire operated trollies. That's NOT what I am referring to.

Instead, I am talking about light weight, primarily surface travelling, rail vehicles. Not trollies, not subway style heavy rail and not monorails.

Here is something we have in Miami, not exactly what I am shooting at, but closer than what is referred to as "light rail":

Picture won't come through gcurling.

My thoughts are similar to Peter Pirate's, but I also understand gcurling's problems.

What I would do (and I don't know if this is feasable) is create a new TTC (TTC2)North of Epcot the Epcot Mono would then have a new stop built on it. Then the outer loop of the MK monorail would be connected with the Epcot line so you don't have to swich trains to go from Epcot to MK.

Finally a third line would go from this new TTC2 to AK, around to MGM and back to the TTC2.

All Traffic would be funneled to the NEW TTC2 with parking greatly reduced at the Epcot and MGM lots. All resorts would then retain bus service (although I would use Natural Gas or Electric power) to DTD, Water parks and such. Light rail of some kind (I actually think that trolley or similar would be appropriate depending on the resort) or mono (MK Resorts) would connect each resort to either TTC1, TTC2.

It would also be of value to have a Light rail of some kind running to DTD from TTC2.
