My toaster won't turn off

The heating coil keeps staying on after the toast has popped up. I have to keep the toaster unplugged except when using it. I'm really bummed because we have a nice 4 slice/double wide one, with easy remove trays at the bottom to clean it. The same model runs over $60 to replace....plus it was a gift...actually the best one I ever rec'd from MIL. Does anyone know if this is something that can be fixed?

I don't know, it sounds like your toaster is toast.

Sorry, I just had to say it. Look in the yellow pages under "Appliences-Small, Repair". You can probably find someone there who can fix it, but it may cost more than buying a new one.
