After getting most excellent advice from the "cool guys" on this board, (to go to DLR from Sunday - Tues (6/3 - 6/5)....I proceeded to make hotel ressies for Sunday & Monday nights.

Went to the DL website. No availability for nights of 6/3 & 6/4 (for the 3 DLR hotels).

Plan B - asked the nice AAA travel lady get us rooms at one of the DLR hotels & asked for the Fairfield or Hojo as a backup. Heard back (only Fairfield available @ $160 per night).

Plan C - heard from others here to call the hotels direct. I did. Guess What.....They Had Rooms Available! But......Talked to a sweet disney schmoopy voiced lady who extolled the virtues of onsite AND Consiearge (never done it before and obviously don't know how to spell it either) level at Paradise Pier.

Heck with the Grub, the pool, the Monorail etc. I was in. But after I hung up, I did the Math and the total (which i think includes the tax & parking) is about $700 for 3 days 2 nights.

(note: the only thing available at the Disney Hotels was the PP with the consierge or the Disneyland Hotel, which was the same price, but didn't have Conseirge - dang, i really need to learn how to spell that.)

All prices above are hotel only (w/o park tickets which i've already bought).

Is my wife gonna kill me? :rolleyes1

Can anyone help me justify paying twice as much $$ at the Paradise Pier (Consierge) from Sun noon till Tuesday 2 (ish) than it would be at the boring ol' Fairfield (staying Sun & Monday - with no food or amenities etc.). :snooty:

We have always been a value (sometime moderate) vacation family at WDW, & our only trippy at DLR (two months ago) was 2 nights at the Fairfield. My kid knows that La Quinta means "next to Dennys" in Spanish & that "Continental Breakfast" means "grab an extra sweetroll & banana for lunch"....so you can see that we are the "Blue Light Special" type of vacationers.

Will we be out of our element?

Will the other vacationers at PP look down at us (over their little glasses & down their beaky noses)? :snooty:

Do they have a "cement pond" to play in? :bitelip:

Are Cannonball Splashes allowed?

Tell me about this fancy place..... & tell me about Consierge (besides the grab & go sweet rolls).

Help me convince my "better half" (DW) that I'm not a complete :goofy:

Thanks guys. :thumbsup2

If she doesnt appreciate this then she doesnt deserve to go and I will go with you instae:lmao: no one will look down at you at PP...and yes cannonball splashes are allowed....and you dont have to sneak out food and drink at the "concierge" lounge....they welcome it:goodvibes your gonna have so much fun...and just so you know...thats a really good deal for that length of time...I go for a couple of nights more and stay at DLH without concierge and I pay over $1000 so you did good my friend:thumbsup2

You will have a great time! Once your wife sees what you get and where you are staying she will forgive you!:thumbsup2 ! Unfortunately if you are like me once you have stayed deluxe you won't want to stay anything else again!! (The main reason why there is such a gap between my Disney trips:rotfl: !!)

OK, lesson 1 (can you tell I'm a teacher:teacher: !!). It is spelt concierge.

Lesson 2) In addition to grabbing rolls you will be able to grab water and juice from the fridge so you don't have to buy it in the park. You can grab the yummy Mickey rice crispy treats and chocolate covered strawberries when they are out. You can even grab a beer and glass of wine with some yummy desert type treats and cheese from 5 - 7pm!:drinking1

Lesson 3) You get priority check in so no waiting in line.:snooty:

Lesson 4) You get to use the vacation planning team (although any onsite guest can do this) to get them to make all your PS arrangements for you.

I'm sure you will all have a great trip and that your wife and children will love it.

We stayed at a PPH concierge room for the first time this past Feb and loved it. They upgraded us to a DCA view and it was spectacular. Danauk prety much covered all the perks of concierge. There's a continental breakfast in the morning, snacks throughout the day ranging from fruits, cookies, chips, rice crispy treats, and in the evening between 5-7, beer & wine with some appetizers. When we went, the appetizer was a chicken skewer and a cold pasta salad. You are allowed to take 2 drinks per person out of the lounge each time you go in. They don't frown upon you taking snacks out and actually encourage it. There's dvd rentals for free provided you return them the folowing morning as well as game board rentals too. When we checked in, there was a like of 4 or 5 people at the front desk. We decided to head up to the lounge one the second floor and checked in there without any wait. The staff was wonderful and they never made us feel out of place.

I think you and your family will have a great trip.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: You're killing me hound! What are we going to do with you???

Go to the concierge level and be :snooty: to all of us who are not there!

Tell her she get her money's worth by snagging the waters from the fridge as mentioned before!

Enjoy the high life!

you're good at keeping us laughing just keep her laughing while you pay the bill and maybe she wont notice! That's the pirate: way!

:rotfl: I was laughing my butt off at your post.

Now I am about as "frugal" as they come. I clip coupons, never pay full price for anything, etc. BUT, when it came to our vacation it was me who insisted on staying onsite. Dh agreed, even though it was quite a bit more money, but it was so worth it. Early entry makes you feel like a rockstar! Plus, the walk from PP is really quick to DL IMO.

I enjoyed it very much. Tell your wife to "live it up" for a few days! ;)

You will have a great time! We just got back from our first DL trip and we had a blast! We stayed at DLH and paid $900 for 3 nights including that ridiculous daily resort fee. I think the money was worth it for our family, we stay at values and moderates at WDW, usually All Star Movies $900 for 7 nights, so the DLH was a splurge. We will do it again, I think next time we will stay at the Grand Californian. I think it is easier to stay at a nicer hotel at Disneyland because you don't stay as long. It is much easier to pay $300 per night for 3 nights than 7 or 8 nights.

man, i wish i could kill my husband for doing something like that!:rotfl:
have fun and enjoy it all!

I wish my DH would plan something like that for us! We are AP holders, and when we go, we stay at Hilton hotels because we get points- and they're all far away, and we never have EE because we have APs. I would KILL to stay onsite at least once!!!

List of things not to break to the wife when she's holding a cast iron skillet.

Hi ya Hon. Remember that $300 hotel I was talking about? Well I just booked concierge for 700 smackers.

You've suddenly become VERY attractive to all of us Dis ladies! ;) :lmao:

If my dh even considered booking an on-site hotel I would be ELATED! I don't think the word "concierge" is in his vocabulary. As it is, I have to scrinch and save and pinch every penny and show him how much we are saving in order for him to even agree to going. Bleh, Disney Muggle! :headache:

Just tell your wife the hotel is a "Just Because you are the best wife in the whole wide world gift!" Once she sees the room and realizes the benefits involved you will be in her good books for a very long time!

Your post is hysterical. If you're that funny and charming when you present the plan to your wife, she'll be putty in your hands!!

I've neved stayed at the PP, nor had concierge, but I think it sounds like wise planning on your part. Early entry is another great bonus of staying onsite, so don't forget to point that out!

Have a magical trip:wizard:

Like most others have said - I would be thrilled to clobber my husband for booking a fabulous on-site vacation. But..........I just peeked and Getawaytoday has PP (just regular plain ole rooms.......I can't spell the "C" word either!!) and Grand Californian. :scared1: If you're going to blow the budget blow it big right!?

Hound- you rock! Your post cracked me up! :rotfl2: I know you and your DW will have a great time! :thumbsup2

You guys are gonna have a great time!!

Just throw in all the water, juice and snacks you'll get staying concierge and it all comes out in the wash ... it's called fuzzy Disney math or FDM for short. :rotfl2:

That's great! I am going on our second DL trip and have not convinced my DH to go yet. Keep your fingers crossed for my third trip. have fun but save some magic for June Disers!

DO IT!!! We just got from PPH conceirge level. I am upset because I have do it sooner. We honestly only spent $50 on food for a family 5 during a 3 day stay. We would go to the lounge for breakfast, lunch and dinner (beer for dh), plus at least twice a day. My kids loved grabbing juice, chips etc from our special place. The CM were wonderful!!!! My anti-disney hubby even had a great time. Mickey was very sneaky and left us rice krispy treat.

Do It!!! Very worth it!!! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:
