I just wanted to sat Thank You to all who took the time to answer my question so thoughtfully and honestly. I see how the thread got out of hand and that is just too bad. My husband and I both valued and discussed all points of view. I won't get into the whole "asking permission" replies because that was never a issue and I am not sure how it got to that but, again I just wanted to say thanks and we are still discussing our options!:wizard:

Good luck in your decision, Maureen. You should know that you can have lovely trips with DVC, and lovely trips without it.

:thumbsup2 Agree with this.

I am sure whatever is finally decided is what will be right for your family. :goodvibes

Good Luck and do let us know! :)

so sorry.

i hope all the responses did help. the one good thing, was showing
a few of the factors going into this investment. and that's
what i think the boards are good @....negatives & positives input.
{sometimes, even no response helps one toward the right direction too}
i know they have helped us to get more out of our purchase.

....., good luck toward your desire outcomes!

Please don't feel bad about the thread being closed. I read everything on there and although there were mildly tense moments, that does not appear to be the reason it was closed...when a topic gets discussed to an extreme length with too much circular logic and not enough progression, it should be closed before things do get too ugly. As for your situation, I wish you the best of luck.

Agreed, I think the mods saw no new information about your specific post and that it was being hijacked on RCI/Trade information which caused the thread to get closed.

This is what I tell everyone considering DVC. I think you will find that many of us have a perceived value of ownership that cannot be represented by hard numbers. I can tell you why it is worth every penny we spent to us but that doesn't make it the right decision for your family.

Just made an offer on a BLT resale!!!! I am so excited I can hardly breathe!!! Fingers crossed everyone!! Again Thank You all for your advise it was greatly appreciated!!!!

I will keep everyone posted!!!
Thanks,
Maureen

Good for you. We love BLT and consider it our home away from home. Keep on top of the timeline, some of the resale groups are so busy they let the timeline slip when they can. It is a long process but be patient. Good luck and let us know how things are going along the way.

Thank you all! I will keep you posted.
Offer was countered:
Original asking price was $94 we offered $90 they countered with $91 we accepted... So we signed the contract and sent off the deposit not we wait for word on ROFR.

Thank you all again!!
Maureen

So then, did I pay too much for my resale? LOL!!!

Thanks,
Maureen
No. No matter what you pay, there will always be some who pay less and others who pay more. As long as you are satisfied with the price you paid and you clear ROFR, I wouldn't worry about trying to squeeze every last penny out of the seller. In the long run, it doesn't matter and it's really a shame to see someone lose a contract to ROFR for $200-300.

Congratulations on your decision and enjoy your membership!

I can't tell you how many years we explored DVC prior to finally taking the plunge. Like you we followed the boards, Asked questions, read reviews, and took the tour before we found a resale to our liking. That was nearly ten years ago and I can say we have no regrets other than not having bought into DVC sooner. It's the intangibles that have added value.

Just found out that the RCI transfer (that Disney played up at Door Way To Dreams) would be no where near as flexible as I was told it would be. My dad was buying the DVC for my brother and I to share and my brother hates Disney and will never go there again so we thought the DVC would work well considering how it was explained to us at the presentation. We now found out that Disney is well in my honest opinion extremely deceptive in this matter and as a result we need to pull the contract. My heart is broken and I am very angry and disappointed and quite frankly feeling a little scammed by Disney at the moment. I asked pointed questions and was not told the truth by Disney. I feel bad for the sellers and hope they are not in a desperate situation and need to money right away and hope that they are able to sell it soon.:guilty::sad1:

Thank you everyone for your help on this roller coaster ride!

I'm so sorry you have to miss out because of your brother's interests.

Gotta say, my only experience with RCI showed that even owning them doesn't guarantee anything beyond what you exactly own...my mom tried for a year to get me a room for my grad school graduation trip and was unsuccessful. They had problems getting other places for the next year or two, and sold it. They despised their actual spot in the Bahamas. So...hopefully RCI has gotten better since the 90s.

I just don't see how buying something that makes your brother happy is going to make YOU happy. (but I don't see how sharing with an adult sibling would have kept anyone happy in the first place LOL):hug:

I tried to trade out a couple of times and was unsuccessful.

I have heard of plenty of people who are able to trade IN to DVC using their other timeshares. Maybe you can buy a resale at a resort that has good trading power. The Timeshare Users Group would be able to help you choose a good one. Make sure that you're also OK with other resorts in Orlando. DVC had been with II and RCI and can change from one to the other.
