My Thoughts on FP+

I used to be one of those people who would be at the park at rope drop, get in the headliner attractions two or three times a day, and collect up to ten or so Fast Passes in a day, taking full advantage of the system.

I like FP+ better. Yes, it's kind of a pain to figure out where I want to be and what I want to ride two months in advance, but the system works. Changing the Fast Passes day of was easy, and I never encountered a wait of more than one or two people ahead of me to change passes, and they had many CMs helping at the kiosks. I also like that I could change the passes for everyone in my party without them needing to be in a park, since a few days I still got up and went for rope drop by myself, and was able to change ride times to later when we figured out what time we'd be meeting up.

I agree with your experience. We loved FP+ in late October. We still got up and went early, rode the headliners we wanted and had FP+ for late morning/early afternoon. It was perfect for us.

We were in WDW mid October on a relatively last minute trip and had a similar experience. Our first time there using FP+ and we loved it. Had no problem riding almost every ride we wanted with either FP+, late nights, or during MNSSHP.
