My thoughts on Deck 1 on the Magic

[QUOTE=" Can't decide which is worse, footsteps or mechanical noise, ha!

I'm pretty bad with noise . . . bass really gets to me, from a car stereo of a band? IF I luck out with a noisy room on my "Let Mickey pick" I'm going to see about downgrading to anyplace quiet. Sleep is important. Long cruise. Need my rest. I can deal with it if I know it has an ending time (like a show that ends at 10pm) but . . . . I might be OK with a repetitive churning noise. Guess I'll find out![/QUOTE]
Well, in the case of 1051/1053, the mechanical noise would only happen in the morning for maybe an hour. So it definitely had a limited time span, it just sucked being woken up. But I'm with you, I can deal with noise if I know it ends at a normal time. It's the "good Lord, will it ever stop" noises that send me over the edge.

Hey @Rob1872 and @wajones2 which rooms did you stay in on Deck 1? I was wondering if you can hear people walking above you? We liked 1051/1053 because there is no one above you, but you do hear mechanical-type noises since there's some sort of pump above you. I was eyeing 1050 and 1052 across the hall (two connecting porthole rooms) but wondered if you can hear people walking above you on deck 2? Can't decide which is worse, footsteps or mechanical noise, ha!

We were in 1047 and didn't hear anything above us. No mechanical noises. It was VERY quiet.

This is good to know. We are booked on a GTY deck 1 deluxe ocean view for 10 nights on the Magic transatlantic cruise.

I was in Cabin 1038 for the TransAtlantic last September and I LOVED DECK ONE! It's very quiet and easy to get around. Very convenient to both the Forward and Midship elevators. Which are empty when they get to Deck One. BUT I had metal on metal noise in 1038. First there was outside noise - something like a chain or metal banging against the ship. We did not have rough seas. And then there was a noise like someone hammering on a pipe underneath the cabin. Otherwise it was a nice cabin, well maintained. I thought I would miss the one big porthole but the cabin has a lot of lights and never felt dark. The best thing was the BIRDS that followed the ship one night - I think the night from England to Ireland. SO cool! Flew just above the water. It's really a cool view to see the water at that level.

I did talk to Guest Services who were VERY nice about the noise, even had an engineer check it out, and offered to move me to a Deck Two cabin - something like 2006? I went up to see where it was and you could hear the music from the Walt Disney Theater very loudly in the hall so I stuck with my clanging room. If I were to travel on the Magic again I would love Deck One but would NOT pick the same cabin. Did not hear anyone in the hallway or anyone above me.

Found the long cruise very relaxing . . although it was windy and chilly up on the pool deck. Or on Deck 4 where I thought I would be reading. The food on the pool deck - like the hamburgers - were not very fresh. There weren't many people eating up there because of the chill in the air. There are a few books in the coffee place - but I brought four and read all of them. Best entertainment for me was the cooking classes! They were all PACKED so get their early. You get a small glass of wine and a nice sample of what the chef is cooking.

Took the Dream in November - much prefer the Magic. Oh, I didn't take any tours at all. Cobh Ireland was nice as was Plymouth . . . but really, not much going on at the Canadian stops. I got off and walked around but . . . .one cool thing is that at the Port of Sydney, if you go inside the building, there's a desk where they sell stamps and give info - AND they will stamp your passport with a Port of Sydney Stamp! Very cool!
