Just finishing up 9 glorious days at Aulani. Our whole family loved it. Will make a more detailed post later!

I read a lot of posts about faded swimsuits, dried out hair and skin due to over chlorinated pools. We didn’t experience any significant issues other than some dried skin that smelled of chlorine even after shower on one of the days….but, my theory is they over chlorinate the pools because the expect people to pee in them!!!! For the record no one in our family peed in the pool because ew! But I can see why people might…..

Where the heck are the bathrooms for the hundreds of people by the pool?! Did we miss something??? Only 2 bathrooms that have. 2-3 stalls for the entire pool area? The only bathroom that has adequate number of stalls we came across was outside of Olelo. Did we miss bathrooms or was this an oversight in design?!

There is also a set of bathrooms in-between the adult pool and the infinity pool.

We’d start the morning in the pool, then did a lot of beach time in the afternoon. We noticed pool water was cloudy by afternoon. Also more crowded! So worked out for us. Just seems like such an oversight to have such an expansive pool area and minimal bathrooms!

It's not the pool that's ruining your bathing suits, it's the new sunscreen. When states started banning Oxybenzone and similar ingredients, all the major manufacturers altered their formulas. The new formulas are hell on fabrics.

I'm a long-time pool owner.

A properly chlorinated pool does not have a strong odor.

When the chlorine bonds with organic material (plant and animal material, sweat, sunscreen, human waste) it produces a compound that does have a strong chlorine odor and causes itching and burning of skin. When this happens, the pool must be shocked with high levels of chlorine oxidizer which "burns out" the chlorine compounds. This is normally done over-night, and the high levels of chlorine will quickly dissipate by morning.

Your experience does not describe an over-chlorinate pool but simple a dirty pool that needs to be cleaned.

I just go in to any pool with the assumption that I'm swimming in an unknown percentage each of water, chlorine, and urine. No sense in denying it.

I would love to know the PPM of Total and Free chlorine in Disney pools. As a pool owner I keep mine at the bare minimum and they say you shouldn't swim above 5 but a kid pooped in the Poly pool yesterday and everyone was allowed back in the pool a little too quickly for my own comfort! They must be running the chlorinator on high!

As a side note that's a "behind the scenes backlot style" tour I'd love to go on. Pay a pool maintenance person to show me all the machine rooms and maintenance procedures. Are they chlorinated? Brominated? Ozone used? UV disinfection? Salt Water Generator?
