my stroller stolen

We were eating at SciFi Wednesday night and came out the stroller was gone. It was a brand new (3 months we have had it) coral pink Maclaren stroller. I don't think it was a case of mistaking it for their own. Blue cotton candy was tied around the handles, painters tape around the black portion on back, and black Disney tote bag in bottom with refillable mugs sitting on top.

Disney gave us free stroller rental the rest of the week and compensated us for the mugs and the new Aerosmith t-shirt that was also in the bag. But other than that Disney's security did not know about any security cameras!!!

I am so furious that this would happen to me. We have been going to Disney for yearly for 10 years and we have always felt safe. We have left cameras in our strollers in the past and nothing ever happened. Fortunately, we left nothing of too much value this time. My DD4 was diagnosed 6 days before we left with Type 1 Diabetes and I am glad we carried her insulin bag with us every time. I am furious too because we needed that stroller because she is still recovering from the ordeal of being hospitalized. (THe doctor did give us the ok to go. He said not to cancel plans; to get back to normal as quick as possible)

Tourist beware. It does happen at Disney. I was so naive to think it wouldn't. Several CMs told us it happens alot this time of year. One CM told me people come this time of year just to steal strollers and sell them on ebay.

First let me say Sorry this has happened to you. I know it doesn't help much. Last week I was at Disney and I saw all the expensive strollers.

Plus lots of people leave all their souvenirs in them. I guess that's why I use a cheapo model from walmart. I know its not the best but it is good enough for Disney.
I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Thanks.

I will use a cheapo from Walmart next time too. I probably won't buy another expensive one. It was my first expensive nice stroller and now it is gone. :sad2:

That is a shame. You would like to think you could park your stroller outside without someone stealing it but that is just not the case anymore. People just do not care. Not everyone that buys a park ticket is a decent honest person. Never leave anything unattended that you want to see again.

We have a special needs stroller/wheelchair for my ds to get around the parks but he does not need to to get in the restaurant. I have left it outside Sci Fi before but I will not anymore. That thing was $1500.

My hubby thinks someone was watching us to know when we went into SciFi. They had an hour window to steal it and we didn't know it. CM's were directing the mass of people leaving the Osbourne lights right beside Sci Fi. So this person had the perfect opportunity to steal it without anyone noticing; throw their child in and start walking in the mass of people.

That's horrible! I'm so sorry this happened to you. How can people stoop so low? Well, I truly believe what goes around comes around.

How upsetting for you and your family - especially your daughter. I cannot understand why people would steal. What kind of lessons are they teaching their children? It is not okay nor is it fair to take something that belongs to someone else. I am thankful my children do not require a stroller for our next visit. This seems to be happening a lot lately at WDW.

We stayed at the Yacht Club and DH spoke with the Concierge and the guy was shocked. He said "this doesn't happen at WDW." LOL He really lives in a magical happy place.

The man giving us our wrist bands for the MVMCP asked if we had our tickets. I said yes you want me to get them out. He said "No, everyone is honest this time of year." I replied, "no, my stroller was stolen last night." I think he almost fell over too.

Hi! Sorta off topic here, but I just wanted to say hang in there with the diabetes! :thumbsup2 DD13 was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 3. Yes, life does go on. I wish you all the best of luck as you adjust to a new way of thinking and living. We have since been to disney 4-5 times as well as countless other vacations. Including Canada and Hawaii! If you need an ear or a friendly shoulder I will be happy to listen!

Merry Christmas!

thanks. It was different trip this time around. We had to check blood sugar, count carbs, write every thing down, let her eat, give injection, check blood sugar again after 2 hours. ha You know that though. It was a stressful vacation but we had a very good chef at 1900 PF. She came out and went with me to the buffet. The other chefs were mediocre.

I am hoping it gets easier and easier.

I'm sorry to hear about your stroller. That really is too bad :(

I'm sorry to hear about your stroller. My kids are out of them, but I think I would consider taking a bike lock and running it through the wheels. Unless they want to carry the whole thing out, most thieves would leave it I think. The CM's might be annoyed, but if I had an expensive stroller, it would be worth it to try and keep it.

I brand a Mac Stroller to DW for the past 3 trips. I have to tell you I was tempted to buy a pretty color and opted for the ugly grey one. I would never bring a pretty coral stroller to DW I think it is a moving target. Sorry! and sorry it was stolen.

My thoughts were the opposite. I thought if I had purchased a neutral color it would have been an easier target; not as noticeable. I thought who would walk right out with a bright color that would be easily noticed. How wrong I was. :confused3

I don't think any of us are immune. I wish we were.

the pretty ones are easier to resell on ebay. The ugly grey blends in and is not the first to be noticed. First notices is also probably the first stolen. The grey also has a real low resale value on ebay. The blues, the lime, the coral are really popular. Also I would think if someone one to steal it for personal use they would steal a pretty one over an ugly one. Just my 2 cents. Did you buy it on a credit card like Amex? If so they cover stolen items for 90 days from date of purchase.

We thought of a bike lock to thread thru the front wheels. I wish we had of now. :guilty:
If someone had come in planning to steal strollers, I think a lock might have slowed them down a little, but would not have stopped them if yours was the one they wanted. I would expect someone coming in to steal strollers might also have a plan to sneak in a cutting tool so they could cut a lock.

Sad to say that some people are so dishonest.
:grouphug: to you

Belive it or not it will! It is still early into the process, but look into getting an insulin pump. It has changed DD's life so much. I resisted for about two years, now it seems like such a waste of time. We went from 6-8 shots a day, down to one "stick" every two days. Also, if you have a pediatric endocronologist near you it is a huge step up in care, or at least find a doctor that looks out for your child. We were lucky to find a doctor at the children's hospital we went to when she was diagnosed in the ER. Best Wishes.
