My stove broke!

Ugh!! Thursday while I put my oven on broil, there was a loud pop. Thought we just flipped a fuse. So DH flipped it on the breaker box. It worked. Well, Friday, went to bake some chicken...no oven. Figures...we are about to put our house on the market. So in the year and a half we have lived in this house, I have replaced every stinking appliance in the kitchen! Just have to vent!

I had my oven go out last year and I fixed it myself! I could see that the element sort of "blew" out, melted in one spot (it did make a loud pop). I got the part number off of it, ordered one online, and replaced it. So many things can be fixed easily and inexpensively. We fixed the fridge the same way, researched the problem we were having online, determined what part was most likely bad, and ordered it/installed it.

Been there, done that. All the appliances in the house were original to the house being built. The house was built in 1968 and we moved in 2000. The owner's manual to the washing machine was in a bin mounted to the back and stated, "Whirlpool, the appliance of the 70's" as in looking into the future. The fridge had no handle. It only had a foot pedal to open the door and for the first few times grocery shopping, we couldn't buy milk in gallon jugs because they just wouldn't fit in the fridge.

To the OP - I know this sitnks and all...but can I say something to make you feel a little better??? At least you'll have exactly what you want for the new appliances!

I agree. Lots of stuff is easy to replace.

I would definately try to fix it yourself or find someone handy to fix it! I had the same issue and took the oven manual along with the burned out part to a local appliance repair/parts place and was able to fix it the same day. It was a big money saver.

Since you are selling your house, unless the old stove is unsightly, I would not replace it.:headache:

It does sound like it could be the element, which is easy to replace yourself. Google it and see if you can do it.
We fixed our air conditioner the same way. The part was only $34. Just getting someone out to look would have been $100, let alone parts and labor, so a BIG savings.

We actually figured out that it would probably cost about $175 to repair it. Best Buy had a deal on an electric range today for 318. So we are just going to replace it. But...my sister needed a new stove, so she took it and will get the part. Atleast we are assuming that is what it will take to fix it. Someone will get a new stove atleast. Maybe it will be a selling point, and I have to hope I don't have to buy any appliances for awhile in the new house! What really annoys me is that when I bought the first appliance, the dishwasher...I debated long and hard about going stainless. I didn't do it because I didn't want mismatched appliances! I figured there was no way I would have to replace them all....in a year and a half no less! Oh well, it could be worse!

Gotta love Lowes!!! I went to buy a new oven today. Best Buy has a basic model on sale for $320. I was going to go to Sears, because they have the price match guarantee of 10%. Then I remembered that both Sears and Best Buy charge for delivery. So I figured I would go to Lowes to see if they price match...because they don't charge for delivery. Not only do they price match, but they also have the 10% price guarantee!! So....for $287, I got me a new oven! Well, should say whoever buys my house has a new oven!

Try to fix it yourself or look at the clearance stuff at lowe's and home depot.
