My Story on the News

That is very interesting, thank you for sharing! I'm just curious- why do they say that you were too young for a hip replacement? That struck me as odd.

Wow that is amazing. I play on a horse game site and the love of horses is so great three. I feel for you and your not being able to ride. You are an amazing person and quite pretty also but I liked most about your story was the horse of course. I love horses but cannot ride because of the potential of dismounting in the flying position, lol. I once rode a child safe horse until I dismounted when the horse ran out from me. By the way the child safe horse was a former rodeo or barrel racer and took of at sudden sounds, lol.

How are you coming along and are you riding yet? Wow awesome story.

Not sure if this is true in all Provinces of Canada, however very few doctors like to operate and do a total Hip relpacement on anyone younger than 40 unless they really have no other choice. I was 27 when they finally agreed to do mine. However , I had to wait for over 2 years before that to even get to see a doctor. My referring doctor had to call 7 different doctors before one finally agreed to see me.

Thanks for sharing your story DisneyFairytale. I never knew they did that proceedures in Canada, it was interesting. As stated above. I know what its like being told your to young for a hip replacement, but these doctors dont understand the pain your in, they are more concerned with your age. I was 24 when I needed my first but had to wait till I was 27 to finally get it done. How have you been getting along since your surgery. Do they think you will still need a total hip replacement down the road?

Wow, that's amazing. How are you feeling now? Are you still in pain? I had a total hip replacement at age 31 and I had to fight to get it.

Wow! That is kind of crazy! I asked because my best friend had to have both hips replaced at 21 due to complications from Leukemia treatment. They never even brought up the age factor. I'm sorry to hear that it was so hard to get yours.

There are some very good reasons that doctors don't want to do hip or knee replacements before 40.

The biggest is that a hip replacement is not permanent. The 'hardware' has a lifespan before it wears out and needs to be replaced. Someone getting a replacement at 40 may be able to live out their life without replacing their hip replacement. Someone getting their first replacement in their 20s or 30s will very likely need a replacement for the replacement. Since it's major surgery with possibilty of complications and a lot of therapy for recovery, they try to put it off as long as possible.

Sometimes they can't wait (like your friend with chemo damage), but going ahead and doing the replacement has a possible 'price'. I have a friend who had some type of problem since birth that affected her joints. She had to have her hips replaced at a very young age and has had several re-replacements since then. I think she had had both hips replaced 3 times. One good thing is that she said the hardware is being improved each time, but she would have rather avoided one of the surgeries if possible.
