My State Food is Better Than Yours

Ok..From RI..Clam Cakes, Clam Chowder, New York Sysem weiners all da way, Fried clams, Del's Lemonade,Zeppolis, Whoopie Pies and the best italian food. I have lived in a lot of states but the food culture in RI is like nothing I have seen before.

::yes::

Did anyone from RI, Maine, Mass mention a New England clambake?
I mean down at the shore, in a pit layered with seaweed?
It contains: pototoes, corn, sausages, lobsters, hey! clams, fish
Lots of beer!
Yumm to clams casino & stuffies, too!

the interior of NH used to be pretty bleak, foodwise, but it is improving & expanding.
New Hampshire folks have always been really super at roasting game, preserving jams, jellies etc; apple, strawberry-rhubarb & blueberry pies~
Nothin' better than a church supper!

We have something like this at home. It's called chicken sauce piquant. Must be the French in us down here. BTW we had the macaroons from LeNotre, love, love, love the raspberry ones!

It seems to be a constant quest to find a real fried clam outside New England. They have them at a place near me but they aren't very good and they charge 'Market Price" for them. You know what that means. $$$$$
I don't mind spending the money but I'd at least like them to be good.

Quinn222,

You need to try Boston's Fish house. There is one in Winter Park off Aloma and one in New Smyrna Beach. They have the best clams I have ever had. I like the sliced clam strips but they also have Ipswich whole belly clams. The owners are from Boston and they server New England style seafood, and it is to die for. You will most likely have to wait but it is well worth it. PM me if you have any questions.

I never had the chance to taste the Lenôtre macaroons, but they are known as the best french macaroons... I wish I can get some in Paris in november for my annual trip to Disneyland Paris :thumbsup2
I had some Jambalaya while in Orlando in May, and I loved it! I wish I could cook it (maybe if you know a good recipe :rolleyes1 ...)

No one from CT yet?

Lobster Rolls-Lenny & Joes is only about 10 min from me & the original is about 15.

Pez- :rotfl: well it is made here

Pizza-Pepe's in New Haven (actually the Food Network visited it's sister, Sally's).
lol, we must be neighbors :wave2: , I live 10 minutes away from Lenny and Joes also.

How about some fried clams from Bills and some New England Clam Chowder

Last time I was in Orlando, all I wanted SO bad was some Copeland's or Cheesecake Bistro. I mean I thought for SURE there would be a Copeland's in Orlando, but no, there isn't! There's a Popeye's by the Walmart but we never made it back over that way. It's probably the only one there! Everything we ate tasted so bland and DISGUSTING! I just want some good ol South Louisiana flavor!
We didn't eat IN Disney but one time that trip so I can't comment on Disney's food. Hopefully it's better because we're on the dining plan this year. I have a feeling I'll have to pour salt on everything, though (or maybe bring a travel size Tony's...hey THAT'S an idea!).

From CT, I also thought of steamed cheeseburgers. People rave about them. I had one, and while it was good, the best part was the gobs of melted cheese on top! Love melted cheese. :woohoo:

Muckies hotdogs and kilebasa. Some of the best I have ever tasted.

And the lobsters rolls are the hot ones. Just loads of sweet lobster, on a toasted hotdog bun (with the sides grilled of course) and tons of melted butter.

Birch beer - non alchololic, kinda like rootbeer

I'm a transplant to MA, so let remember the foods I most miss from my other homes:

Illinois -- horse or pony shoes

Missouri -- Ted Drewe's frozen custard

And I offer up another humble export from MA: Harpoon India Pale Ale

Like I said, Celebration Town Tavern in Celebration. REAL clams!

Will all of you do me a favor? I am a concierge in Disney and I am constantly being asked for the best restaurants on and off Disney property. I am starting a new thread with a restaurant poll. Please check it out and voice your opinion there!

We must be. I am a town north of the Westbrook (not Killingworth, the other one to the east of KW) one which is where we get take out, technically it is about 8 minutes but who is counting. Sometimes I like to get take out on my way home from grocery shopping at S&S.

Hmmmm...are you the house with the Mickey on the mailbox on Rt. 80??? Doubt it but that would be cool if you were.

I'm reading a book about New England seafood and I'm learning some fascinating things. Ever heard of Stuffies, coffee syrup (you put it in milk), RI lunch which is a cheese-filled hamburger pun with onions and pickles, snail salad, and oddest of all to me, Chow Mein sandwiches? This is an interesting thread.
