My State Food is Better Than Yours

I'm from Kansas and we have the best.....uh......I'll be dropping by to try your specialties. :)
Indiana is sort of like that, too, except I'm a transplant. I think our state foods are green bean casserole, fried tenderloin, and deep fried anything at the state fair.

Primanti's is the best! When we are traveling, my dh always puts his fries & cole slaw on his sandwich and you can not believe the strange looks he gets.

I went to school in Pittsburgh. We used to go there at 2:00 in the morning. The sandwiches were great!

I'll start...wings. Come on, Im from Buffalo and I know wings, and no one knows them like. Disney wings just dont compare to ours.

For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would eat chicken wings, regardless of what you put on them. (Whatever it is, you can put it on something else! :rotfl: )

I'm from Ohio, and whatever our state food is (meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans?!), I assure you it is not better than anyone else's.

to the person who posted devil dogs- i will eat one today just for you. :teeth:

I'm from NJ, near Philly area...and no one can top our cheesesteaks and pizza!! I've had pizza at various places in Texas, South Carolina, New Mexico, California, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada....it just doesn't compare to the pizza here in the Jersey/New York/Philly area.

Rocky Mountain Oysters are not oysters as you know them...

Here in OK, they are called Calf Fries, and personally, it would take a whole bottle of ranch dressing for me to eat them. Of course, ranch dressing makes almost anything taste better!

OH MY!!! I just read this and....EWW!!   Just reading it made me want to vomit!

I don't care what you cover these in, I would never EVER try these!! :scared: :scared:

BBQ, SWEET Tea (PLEEEASE WDW!), anything fried, Milk Gravy and biscuits. Don't forget the grits w/ sugar and lots of butter! :thumbsup2

AMEN! Just please leave the sugar off my grits! :thumbsup2

CHEESESTEAKS!!! Extra Provy, Wit out. NICE. Nowhere in the world comes close to getting them right. Unless they are from here and know how they should taste. I also agree on the pizza being better up here in the northeast.

Sorry, New Yorker's but Chicago Pizza is by far the very best!!!!!! Gino's East, Lou Malnatti's ....

I also can't believe no other Chicagoians have chimed in about our world famous hot dogs!! Sorry Casey's Corner, but your 'dawgs can't compare!! :)

In case it has not already been stated, New Jersey corn and tomatoes!

Another thing I miss about living in PA - driving "down the shore" and stopping for corn and tomatoes!!!!

I really do love FL - but lived in PA for 40 years - so there are lots of things that I grew to love1

I'm going to be visiting lots of states just to try their "best" food! PA here and can't beat our funnel cakes, chicken 'n waffles and shoo fly pie. Also, up in "coal cracker" country, a Jimmy Dog (hot dog with "secret" chili, mustard and onions on a steamed bun) is to die for. Oh, and I put on 5 pounds just reading this thread.

Baltimore checking in again!

Can't believe I fogot to mention soft shell crabs! They are best lightly sauteed and on white bread.

We also have great corn and tomatoes and always pick some up when driving "down nee oh-shen hon" Again, if you are from Baltimore, you would slice a suuper ripe tomato and put it on white bread with nothing but Helmans mayonaise.

and the best thing to cut the spice after eatin some steamed hardshell crabs are Berger cookies! They are a brand of cookie made in "Bawlmer" that are like a shortbread cookie on the bottom and topped with chocolate icing that is as thick or thicker than the cookie. Alot of bakeries around town try to imitate them, but there is something about the icing on a Berger that can't be beat.

Oh!!! and I also forgot to add egg custard flavored sno-balls topped with marshmallow cream in the summer! There are stands all over and it is a sign of summer when they open. They are nothing like snocones. They ice is shaved off a block and is like snow (some places use an ice crusher, but that is unfortunate) there are all flavors under the sun to put on the ice, but an egg custard one is truly Baltimore. Sigh.

Yum...I really miss those Berger cookies! I could eat a whole pack...really!

As for the snocones, I think the chocolate ones are truly Bawlmer- I've never had a chocolate ice until we moved to Baltimore. What a wonderful childhood treat- chocolate ices with marshmellow...oh the memories!

I agree with ericthewise. I've never understood why someone would spend money on wings. They might as well be selling chicken necks.

SInce chicago has a very large polish community I guess we can claim

Well, I'm from Minnesota. You can take any food you could possibly think of....and we'll put it on a stick. And, as if by magic, the food becomes the best damn food you'll ever eat on a stick!!!!

Got Disney food? Bring it to MN! Put it on a stick, it will be better!!!
We went to the Mall of America a couple of years ago, and couldn't get over the pickles on a stick.
