My son's Lion King room! AND some advice needed.

That is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!! I like the Stitch in the jungle!!! Everything looks GREAT!!!! I like the pic kinda inside the bed. :) Wanna come do my room????

OMG! I did not look at your location, and I was going to tell you that I would LOVE for you to do something like that if you were in MN. And look, you are a neighbor!!! We are going to be building in Cottage Grove, it looks like!! I will have to keep you in mind - I will pay you whatever you want! You have done an excellent job!!!

Can you do ocean murals??? That is what I really want done when we move. I want my den/computer room to be done in oceans. So soothing.

Also, you said you were a graphic designer, as did tkyes. SO AM I!! The MN Designer Connection...LOL :) Just too odd. Again, beautiful work. I am serious, when we move, I would be MORE than willing to hire you. You set the price.

What an adorable room! Makes me wish I were a little boy.;)

I am in shock! That is amazing!! How long did it take you to do that? WOW!! What I wouldn't give to have something like that in my bedroom! I'm 31 and my DH would either like it or GET OVER IT! That is awesome! You definatly have a talent that you need to look into seriously!!!! WOW!

Ummmmm, WOW! Does not even begin to describe. I am incredibly envious of folks with your talent. (I could barely sponge paint a small wooden chair without having palpitations :teeth: ).

OK. MY turn to drop MY jaw!!!!!!!
I just posted the pictures on atht page something like Sunday night or Monday night??? And it ahd 1650 views to date! I had only told 15 of my coworkers and friends about it and 2 days after that there erter 300 biews, today...OMG!!!! Ya know, I should be smaking myself for not using what God has been trying to TELL me to use! Hey, I'm young right? Only 32. :)

Let's see, let me answer some questions...
If this response is any indication....I think I'll be moving on to this full time! If I can just get going on getting out there. If I had ANY money I'd pay to have my web site done as opposed to always doing all my own design. Something about a designer paying a designer... i'm weird right? :)

OK on to questions:

I started this room in February and I finished in early May BUT, that was because I had to get an hour here and an hour there. A few nights of my son sleeping over at his auties house... but if I were to do that extent again, if I had the room prepped and base painted, I could do it in 4 days. It does move quickly. If I bought a projector, it'd help too. I did all that freehand so it took a while. If I do do this for hire, I'll buy a projector my first time out. I'm not above projecting my own drawings on the wall to save HOURS of work and sorrections. I used to be in art colledge but the designers got over that FAST! Stupid artist pride.

I WILL travel though it's expensive sometimes, I'm sure... but I could easily drive to distances like Chicago. ;)

How did I come up with designs and ideas??? Well, I just thought about how I could tell the Lion King story in the room without duplicating any of the characters much if at all. I managed that with all but Simba and hey...that's ok. :) Who's it about anyway? Ideas were just natural. I got the first idea of the big mural wall with Mufasa in the clouds from their movie poster and it was off to the races from there. I also knew I wanted the hakuna matata log scene. I also wanted to do a waterfall but hey...wadda ya do. That jungle wall looks really cooler than you can see. I was taking pics alone that night and I couldn't move the bunk on my own. I'll get my hubby to help when I can get my handle on the of that tungston film again.

Though this is Lion King, I can draw and paint anything. Funny, I was going to do do an ocean theme in my son's nursery but I was ALWAYS so tired when I was PG. :) HA! and it ended up still looking nice but just more simple with an ocean color chairrail to height with 5 colors of dolphin hand cut stencils jumping in and out of the "water" as a border. Then I put a few fish in the water and some light shapes above the chairrail and I was deon. It's all the energy I had. Hmmm. I can post some of my scrapbook pages. They have his room in it. I'll try to do that tonight.

I plan on doing his bathroom in Nemo! I've already got cute ideas for that. I LOVED that movie!!! Nick saw it 3 times. SOOO cute...BUT that's this winter's project. I've got to get going on getting going. :)

If I had had a girl, I probably would ahve done princesses with carousel horses since I LOVE carousel horses. :)

Does this cover it??? Kind of???

I'd welcome any private mails. :) ppony@earthlink.net

Again. I'm humbled and SO uplifted by your support! I've been down lately. This helps SO much!

Again, bottom of my heart THANKS to ALL!!!!!
I WILL keep you updated on goings ons.

Darn it. My scrapbook page scans are on my external HD that I can't access. Wonderful! Well, I think I saved them on my work computer. I'll let you know so you can see the nursery. Warning though, my scrapbook is scrapping gone CRAZY! Not your ....uh, normal book.

OMG THAT IS SOOOO COOL! you did an awesome job!

my favorite part is the wall with Stitch on it! :p

You did that free hand  . AWESOME. You are wasting your talents by not doing what you love and getting paid. If you choose this path, ask for a deposit up front to cover the cost of materials. Charge for labor when the job is done ;)

That is wonderful, Stephanie!!!!!! I liked it very much. Great work you do. Keep it up.

You have done an absolutely incredible job. What a talent you have!!!!!!!!

Holy cow!!! You deserve a metal or something!!! You are really talented.

My DH is an artist and also does murals and characters and does them freehand as well. I have been telling him for years to start doing it as a steady side job because he enjoys it so much and is really good, like you. He did a Sleeping Beauty theme in my daughters friends room and it looked so good people didn't believe it was all hand drawn. They thought the Meriweather fairies were decals!!

Anyway, I think what you can do, and what I've been telling my DH, is this. Put an add in a local paper stating hand painted childrens wall murals, or something to that affect. You have to think of pricing before you do this. My friends offered DH $250 an hour to do a mural!!! We thought they were nuts so we traded my husbands work for her husband who is a lawyer to do our closing for nothing!! Anyway, around where we live there are alot of local artist who are at our local craft fairs and they would just have some pictures or samples of their work and be drawing in front of people there. Also you could maybe draw or paint something and see if a local restaurant or craft store would be willing to advertise it for you. You would need to offer them something in exchange. Like a finders fee. Go to vistaprint.com and get business cards(for free)and just leave them everywhere you go! Like in the bathroom at restaurants, Dr.'s office, local stores.

Now I use to own 2 businesses, one was a craft store and I always allowed local artists to display their work and if sold I would get a percentage of the fee. I also owned a childrens birthday party facility and my DH wanted to paint Disney characters on the walls. From our research it was ok to do so as long as we weren't profitting directly from the characters. We opted to paint similar characters, ie:Ariel with blonde hair, etc. My sister runs a daycare in a health club and they have all the Disney characters painted on the walls and the person that did it doesn't have any special permission to do so. Also I see all the time artists drawing the characters on furniture and t-shirts and I know all these people do not have permission to do this. I'm not sure for what you are doing it is really needed. I hope I helped alittle and didn't confuse you more:rolleyes:

If you do find out what is allowed, please pass it along. I would love to know. Thanks, and good luck!!
Nikki

I am sitting here in AMAZEMENT   WOWO You did an AWESOME job! Man! I showed my DH and he said she if she will do our walls! I said shes in Minnesota! LOL That was the first thing I looked at after seeing those pictures, was where you were! I think you would definitely excel in this as a business! And here I thought I did a good job, just slapping some paint up on my sons room along with some border that had the planets on it! I could only imagine the neat things you could have done, in a space theme for his room! WOWWOWOWOWOW

WOW

I just can't believe it!! you guys are the BEST support group anyone could EVER ask for!!!!!

For those of you that wish I was closer...I wish I was TOO!!!! It just makes me want to hop the fastest place to your homes!!!!! I wish I had relatives all over the country so I could go and stay with them while working in people's homes! Most of my family is here which is why WE remain here. Buuuuut, I DO have family in Georgia and South Carolina :) Just wishful thinking. :) Hey, my hubby always wanted to get a pilots license..... :p

Minnesota!, It's not weird we're both in the same place, at the same time and do about the same thing. It's meant to be! :) We'll talk! ;)

I juts picked up an artist's legal hanbook for visual artists. It talks about the copywrite stuff. I better get reading. AHHH! So much to do!!!!

I'll let you all know when I get the Nemo bathroom done. Maybe I can post progress shots. I hope to get my web site running this weekend then you won't have those ANNOYING pop-up windows. Sorry 'bout those! I better buy a few Nemo accessories before they are gone. I'm going to design my own shower curtian though. I don't like the one they have for me.

Take care everyone! you're the BEST!!!!!

You do beautiful work!

My brother and sister-in-law had their playroom painted for my neices. The artist did a garden theme with fairies and animals. She painted the mural mostly on the bottom half of the walls and the top half was more sky and clouds with a few butterflies and birds thrown in. It was really cute. I know that they paid about $2000 for it and my SIL got a break because she knew the artist from High School. She took one day to do it and included her materials and paint in the cost.
