My Son's leg is infected

OP: first, pixies for rapid healing and that the one round of antibiotics will do the job.

Second: if he is still having some mobility issues, one thing to consider is contacting your airline in advance about getting wheelchair assistance in the airports. The reservation will be flagged and you can get assistance basically curb to curb, or e.g. checkin desk to curb, including to and from the plane, to baggage claim, gate to gate through connecting airports, etc. Since your trip involves European airports and I know they do it a bit differently than US airports, it is even more important to speak with the airline -- they will explain to you how the system works, what you need to do, what they will do, etc. There may also be info available at your airline and airport websites. But you still are supposed to contact the airline.

The distance one walks in an airport can be quite long, even though at first glance it may not appear so. Riding in a wheelchair may be more comfortable than trying to walk it. I will note that sometimes a wheelchair makes getting through some parts of the airport a bit quicker (e.g. at the airports I have been through they have a priority line through security) HOWEVER, it can also be longer (e.g. I spent many minutes sitting waiting to be handed off from one pusher to another - eg often the pusher that takes you through the non-secure side will not be the one who takes you through the secure side), so it is a tradeoff. I would plan for it to take a bit longer to navigate and you should be safe.
