We want to fly down next fall with my two sons. My oldest will be 16 and the other one 12. The last time we went we drove so we took 2 Aero beds with us which worked out ok. This time since we are flying, the Aero beds are not an option. Both boys won't fit on the double sofa bed. Well..they could but they would be very miserable...and who wants to sleep poorly on vacation....:(

Anyhow, as best I know...SSR does not do rollaways. Is there any other way we can get a rollaway bed or are there any other options? We won't have enough points at that time for a 2 bedroom unfortunately due to other trips next year. All help appreciated...

We take an aero bed or equivalent on the plane. I got one of the rolling duffles with the separate compartment on the bottom and put the airbed and sheets in that to keep them separate from the clothes. It works very well. The last trip I got one of the raised beds from Walmart and a cheap airpump instead of aerobed. Depending on which resort you plan to stay at there is plenty of room - one of our group slept on the couch without opening it up and that worked fine also. There are no rollaways at any of the DVC resorts. At one time you could get one at BWV but don't think that is an option any longer.

I agree with newcomer52. The aero beds are not that heavy so shipping probably wouldn't be too much.

You could also look into renting points so you could get a larger unit.

You didn't mention what size unit you were planning on (unless I missed it). If you are planning on a studio, maybe you could consider staying at OKW so that you could get 2 queen beds rather than a pullout. I know that doesn't give you an extra bed but maybe a real bed would be more comfortable than a pullout with 2 teen boys.

Good luck with your decision.

The option that occurs to me -- assuming you are talking about staying in a studio -- is to stay at OKW. The studios there have two queens.

The sleepers are all queens and for the units with the new ones, likely as comfortable as most queen hotel beds. This is a situation where many need to go with the 2 BR unit in the long term.

Sorry...I guess I should have said...a one bed room is what we were going to rent. We just won't have enough points for 2 bedroom at the time.

I bought a double size camping air mattress which is perfect. Very light, folds compact and easy to carry in suitcase.

Probably would cost about $12 new and you would solve your problem.

I would recommend taking one of your 8 bags that you can check and putting the aerobed into it. It has to be less than 50 lbs. Or .... go to Wal*Mart when you arrive and buy a cheap-o mattress and sheets when you get there. I think your kids will like the aerobed better.

Depends on your kids I suppose...many times mine CHOSE to sleep on the hard floor rather than sleep together, and did just fine. Even the times when there was one sleeper sofa and they BOTH chose to sleep on the floor rather than one sleeping on the couch. Guess they were used to camping and the carpet was a whole lot softer than the cold hard ground, LOL! I don't think they even brought sleeping bags, although that's certainly an option. As long as they could see the TV, they didn't mind roughing it at all! :thumbsup2

I was under the impression that studio sleepers were full-size? If they are really queens, I have sheets to exchange...

Well...the description may say queen size sofa sleeper in the one bedroom but just by pulling it out and visually looking at it and laying on it...it did NOT feel like a queen to me. (the studios couch is even smaller so it probably is full size..no worries) My boys are very good sized boys and are all over the bed when they sleep. Some one might have not gotten out of it alive. :::;blink;::: This is why I'm trying to figure out what to do with separate beds for them. I think I will weigh my Aero bed to see what it weighs and go from there. I bought the raised ones, twins last year. Target had a big ooops on price and I got them for $30 bucks each!! These are normally around $179.- and up....I was so happy!

thanks for the tips folks,
Esmerelda :)

I was assuming a 1 BR and all pull outs in the LR are definitely queen throughout DVC. However I'm pretty sure the descriptions on the website says the pulls outs in the second BR are also queens. Maybe someone can tell you for certain about the second BR. I was thinking they were full size also until I read the website description. Otherwise, I think only BCV has pull out queens.

Hmm. What if you took the mattress out of the bed and put it on the floor? The boys would be less hemmed in then, and those springs wouldn't be jabbing into them.

A friend of mine has brought her twin aero bed on trips. She was able to fit it in a duffle bag and check it on the plane.

I packed a green areo bed when we went to see my sister in ca. It fit nicely in the rolling suitcase with sheets & light blanket.

The sleeper sofas in the studios and lock off two bedrooms (which are really studios) are double sized. The sleeper sofa in the living rooms of the one bedroom or larger are queen sized.

This post reminds me of why I consider a one bedroom for 3 guests or 2 couples. I can only imagine my horor of my parents expected me to share a bed with my brother growing up. A room is one thing a bed, NO WAY.

2 bedroom for you.

I appreciate all the help. I discussed it with the boys...they agreed that taking one of the Aero beds along on the plane would be fine. I just hope this thing doesn't weigh over 50#'s....yikes! They charge extra if it does.

To Dumbo71...we just won't have enough points for a 2 bedroom. A one bedroom worked just fine for us last year anyhow. We are breaking up our points so we can get 2 trips in next year. thanks!

good day to all,
Esmerelda :)

I bought a queen Aero bed at BJ's for 99.00 and always put it in a suitcase and check it through. You may want to check out the QVC, they used to have a wide variety.
