Last week my son had an accident and needed to have 3 staples put in his head. When I took him to get them removed they came out folded. Sort of like a real stapled closed. He was obviously screaming his head off and his wound started bleeding again.

Now my question is how are they supposed to come out? Aren't they supposed to open up a bit?

If anyone here has had staples or is a nurse could you let me know what is REALLY supposed to happen? THank you!!!

When ever I have had staples removed the area usually bled. I never really inspected them to see how they looked when they came out. I know that they are different in some way, but maybe someone else knows more about the actual staples themselves. They do hurt when removed, so I can understand why he was upset.

I cannot speak for staples in the head, as my experience was abdominal staples. But I took out tons of those. There is a little remover that one side slides under the staple and the other clamps over the top. Then you squeeze them together the staple opens and (usually) slides easily out through the holes. Overall it should not be very painful, though every now and then one is crooked and does pull a bit. I would think if they were ALL closed after removal and ALL of them bled then it was possibly not done correctly. (((Hugs))) to your son.
