I cannot believe that Katie and Matt are reporting on this unfortunate incident in my home town, Wakefield....it seems a mother at a little league lost control big time..She was also I believe the secretary for the little league association, a position she just resigned.. I am linking a news reports on this... Needless to say I do know this woman from town and can only imagine what her life is like right now......I do feel it is inappropriate to lose control over a baseball game and egg on a fist fight between your son and another boy..........I am sure since the Reading, MA., incident where Mr. Junta killed another father at a hockey game in an argument, that this woman is in serious trouble... so sad..

Calling it `outrageous' and `grievous conduct,' Wakefield police charged a Little League official yesterday with beating and kicking an 11-year-old boy who rooted against her son's baseball team Saturday.
Sounds like she did a little more than egg her son on. And for cheering against your son's team? Isn't that what happens at games?

How sad, that poor kid. It sure sounds like she was the one beating up the poor kid. What has our society come to when a Mother thinks it's ok to beat up a child for rooting against her son's team???

I heard that last night. The is so sad that and adult would go to that level, Mackey Mouse, My town is staring to look better and better but believe me, I don't think it really is.

:D

It IS so very sad. :( ...and it can happen anywhere unfortunately.

MM, I just remebered, what about in Weston a very fluant town, big bucks to live there, look what those kids did in a HS. Wrote threats, it is no matter where you go. people are always putting down the HS here in town, although it isn't great my son graduated and is finishing his 2nd yr of college. I think it is up to the kid but this parents overstepper her bounds, I have one word for her Loser!

I just watched the Chief of Police of our town on the Today Show.. amazing.. his comments were interesting as he stated that the team that this woman's son played for was undefeated, I believe, Marlins and her husband coached the team.......I guess that the town is divided on this issue, Marlin supporters vs.. the other teams in town... Sometimes I am happy I did not have to deal with this on this huge level...my girls were competitive swimmers, them against the clock... that is how we always presented it... try and improve on your times... I am not sure if all towns are like this as I have lived here since 1972, but I would say that this is a very sports oriented town...the heros in high school are not the ones who play musical instruments well or get good grades, they are ones who win the football games, etc.. I too was floored when I heard about that incident. Its just crazy. I heard the ump saying she didnt touch the kid, but who knows what really happened???

I see it happening already with 6 yo soccer. Our coach and assistant coach(DH) tell the kids the team that has the most fun wins. Sure they "yell" at the kids on the field so they can hear them, but its a fun yelling and we all laugh when the kids do something silly that costs a goal...its not a big deal. One of the teams we played had a monster for a coach. He was seriously yelling at the kids, he told the kid on defense he should be happy there because he will get a lot of action(meaning the team stinks), and when they had a chance to throw the ball in and our team wasnt quite ready, he flipped out on his thrower to hurry up and throw it, before our team was in position. These are 6 year olds and standings arent kept for this age group. Id much rather my kid get in there and learn how to play the game than to win every game and learn thats all that matters.

My 7 yo son started Little League this spring. Some of the parents are way too involved. They are always yelling directions to their kids. They take all the fun out of the game for them. It's such a shame :(
