So I know we're a year and a half behind in watching this, but I cannot believe what a mess we were watching it. Especially my big, strong, tough-guy husband! Our two girls were away at sleepovers, and we had it from Netflix so I threw it in the DVD player. My husband was on his laptop and I didn't think he'd pay much attention. He got sucked in. I had read the book before so I knew the premise.

My husband is a guy's guy. He likes movies with a lot of violence and murder. I have seen him cry probably 5 times in the 15 years we've been married, and that's always been at the loss of a beloved family member. Well, we were watching the movie, and at the scene where the family is at the beach and the daughter, Kate, kisses her Dad on the nose, my husband burst out into great big baby sobs and yelled, "This movie sucks!" :sad1: :lovestruc :lmao:

He went to pick our girls up an hour early from their sleepover this morning (I'm sure they'll be thrilled ). It's amazing how much a movie can affect you!

I don't watch sad movies where kids are the ones suffering. I don't know how any parent can. :confused3

I don't know about you, but I've seen parents in real life suffering when their kids were dying of cancer. Movies are easy after that. I agree the movie was great and a real crier, but I was disappointed they changed the ending from the book. I thought the twist at the end of the book is what really made you think!

I liked the book ending better, too. I cried at that, AND the movie! They got me twice!:sad1:

I have never seen it BUT I'm all by myself today (DH and boys are camping) so it looks like I might rent a couple movies and make it a me day. Just have to remember to pick up a box of tissues!!!

My DH was out of town, and it was on HBO on demand, so I watched it. I had to stop and take 3 or 4 breather breaks so I could recover from my crying! Really well done but SO sad.:sad1:

not only was the ending of the movie changed from the book, but apparantly it was based on a real life story, and the ending was different than both the book and movie.

I still haven't seen it. I read the book and really liked it.

I recently watched this too and cried like a baby! It was so very sad, particulary the part at the end where Cameron Diaz and the older girl are in the hospital. Cameron Diaz finally realizes she can't save her daughter then starts crying these great, heaving sobs and I lost it. It still makes me feel weepy to be honest. I don't think I could watch this movie again but it was really well done.

I just watched it too on HBO...I cried...numerous times..LOL..The actress who played the dying girl was AWESOME! I love her in Medium too

Another massive tearjerker is "My Life" with Michael Keaton. It's about a dad dying of cancer who makes a videotape for his newborn son, so his son will always have the videos to remember him by.

That and "My Sister's Keeper" would make quite a double feature.

My husband is another one who just can't take movies like that.

I was really disappointed too. I'm glad I read the book first. It was a real shock the way it ended, I cannot believe they did not use the same ending for the movie. It would have been a better movie if they had.

Don't you just love days like that? Don't forget the ice cream! Enjoy your day! :goodvibes

I have only watched the movie so could somebody share the books ending or twist you all are talking about Thanks Mary

I'll pm you so as not to give it away to others.

Both were good, but I too prefer the book. (I think the book versions are usually better than the movies)

funny, I didn't care for the movie. Not because of the kid dying of cancer, I thought Cameron Diaz was dang near abusive to the other kids. She basically just used the other daughter as a human version of a spare parts junk yard and totally ignored the son.

This movie just hit too close to home for me. It does make you think though. I did manage not to cry through it, but just barely.

I haven't read the book but did see the movie. I'm glad I saw it but I'm not going to watch it again anytime soon. I cried almost the whole movie..

I don't usually watch tearjerkers, I thought this one was well done. Very, very sad.
I didn't read the book, can someone share w/ me how it ended???
