It can happen anywhere. My last stay at the Contemporary, I saw a roach, not a palmetto bug, run across the dresser. I thought, no big deal, this resort is old and near the water. Never even mentioned it to my family. And, of course, I've stayed at Pop 3 times since last year and never saw any. Bugs don't discrimate. I do agree if I had "talked" up how great a resort was to friends and family and it was the first impression they got when walking into a room, I, too, would be embarrassed. We have friends staying at Pop in October for the first time, since we got them a great CM discount and hope something like that doesn't happend to them as we would never heard the end of it. Since PO is 10 years older than Pop, it would be more likely to see critters there. My last stay at PO-R (Dixie) we chased out a lizzard, a frog, and assorted love bugs. Unfortunately for us we did have to cross POR off our list because of the mildew in the rooms because of the ancient air conditioning units, but that's another story.
