I'm going to go, but right now it wouldn't take much to chicken out. I'll be there with 3 other ladies that have gone together before, so at least I won't be alone.

But I haven't been out dancing in I don't remember how long.

But I keep telling myself that at the very least, I can go, get out of the house, listen to music and people watch.

right?

Have fun! Try to let go of the past and just have some fun. You deserve some fun, sweetie.

LOL, but someone may ask me to dance, or no one may ask me to dance.
I'm not sure which would be worse.

Laurie,
I bet you will have a great time! (Just don't dance like Elaine from Seinfeld!! ;) )

You seem like such a genuine and nice person - I am sure that you will meet lots of new people, hopefully a hunk or two as well!!:bounce: :hyper:

Saw a "special" on t.v. once about get togethers for singles. Men admitted they won't usually approach a woman to talk or ask her to dance if she's with a group of women. Admitted they're afraid of being rejected in front of her friends. So, advice of the experts was to always find ways to be alone for a bit (stroll alone to get refreshments, etc.) to give a shy man an opportunity. Let us know how it turns out! :hyper:

I hope you have a great time Laurie. Like you said, just getting out and listening to the music and people watching is good for the soul. And if you happen to meet a nice guy - consider it a bonus!:D

 thanks for the encouragement.

So, if I get brave and decide I want to dance, then I've got to get thirsty. lol Ok, I'll remember that.

Have a great time, Laurie. :)

You've got nothing to lose in trying this.

Ok, I've stalled long enough, I have to finish getting ready. Wish me luck, calm nerves, oh I don't know something. :teeth:

hey have fun tonight...Im sure it will be great!

I agree though, its much easier for guys to approach women who aren't surrounded by other women...now if I could just figure out how to approach women with any success period, then maybe i'd head to one of these single shindigs! but with my outstanding social skills...Im not clearing my schedule anytime soon :p

Have fun!

I sure hope you're having fun right now Laurie!

You go girl!

Okay Laurie, it's getting late, are you home? Did you dance?
Did you meet any drop-dead gorgeous looking guys? Tells us, Tell us, everything! ::yes::

OK, worse case scenario. A guy asked me to dance and before I chickened out, I said yes. Then he wouldn't leave the table. I ended up having to need a drink or the restroom often to make him go away.

But he kept coming back.

One of the ladies I was with had a great time though. She met someone really nice and they talked and danced all night. He wanted to take her home, but we said no. So, he got her number. It was sweet, by the end of the evening they were halfway holding hands. lol

I had fun dancing though, I somehow made it to the dancefloor with the other ladies pretty often. I was afraid to go back to the table. :earseek:

Good for you Laurie! I am glad you had a good time. This was the first, and one of the hardest steps to take. You were just teasing us about being nervous, because look how brave you were. I am glad your friend met someone nice, and that you did not let her leave with him. (Major Dating NO-NO) Maybe next time will be your turn to meet someone special, and if not, think
of the fun you will have trying.

By the way, the ladies restroom used to be a really interesting place. I have had many good conversations in there waiting for someone to loose interest. Next time, just give the guy a fake name, and tell him you have six kids.;)

Trust me I was scared to death. I am trying to do things I had never done before and I may seem brave, but I'm not. :)

MJ, I did get to dance, and it was fun. I did wear myself out too. I'm going to be sore tomorrow.

But I love to dance, and that part was fun. Once I got more comfortable.

I'm glad you had a good time! Maybe it will get less fearfull now!
