My Shark steam mop just died

I'm so upset, my Shark Steam Mop died while I was using it yesterday One minute it was steaming away, the next minute no steam. I tried unpluging it for a while & then tried it again later (just in case it overheated or something) and still no steam.

I had it only about a year and a half. What should I replace it with? I don't want to spend a fortune, but I also don't want to have to replace it every other year either.

What brand is budget friendly but will hold up?

I notice you are in NJ. Mine stopped working one day, and it was because many of the holes had become plugged with scaling from our hard water. It's possible to check when you take off the terry mop head. If that's your problem, you can clear the scale with toothpicks or BBQ skewers.

It's worth a try!

If you decide to replace your steam mop, I recommend the Bissell product line. I have had one for a few years now and have had no issues at all with it. It is so quick and easy to set up.

The same thing happened to mine. I figured that out, because when I took off the actual plastic head, from the handle, all the steam finally escaped (scared the heck out of me). Anyway, kind of took it apart some, cleaned out the steam holes and all was fine again!

I've had 2. first died under warranty. they sent a new one. The replacement died also was not under warranty. Won't buy another though I loved it.

It must be really common, I have one & when I bought it a friend recommended using distilled water on it because hers plug up.

Ever considered getting away from the steam mop? I bought a Don Aslett microfiber mop set from QVC and it works just great. I had got a Shark from Kohl's, but they sent the cheaper model so I bought it back. I decided I didn't want the hassle of plugging something in and adding water. Most of the time I don't even wet the pads and they clean great. It came with regular microfiber pads, some scrubbing pads and a dust mop pad. I have tile, hardwood and laminate. I even use the scrubbie pads to clean my shower/tub and wash the windows outside. It was $25with shipping and tax.

How is the Shark with getting into corners? Years ago, I had the Hoover FloorMate, and my big issue with it was that there wasn't an attachment for corners. I still got on my hands and knees for that, which defeats the part of the ease of use.

I bought a no-name steam mop from Home Depot for about $25. It works great and when it dies, I'll just toss it without any tears.

I haven't used anything much more than water. I did mop off windex when I did the outside windows. The pads are definetely washable. My mom has washed hers hundreds of times. I just got mine so I've only washed a few times, but I haven't had a problem yet.

I tried a toothpick, but still nothing. It just drips a puddle of water. It makes steam-like sounds, and a little bit of steam came out, but nothing like it used to be.

The shark did pretty well in the corners, & down by the toe kicks under the kitchen cabinets.
