Well here goes..........last week we stayed at the Santa Fe, we usually stay at the Cheyenne but thought we would mix it up a little for this trip...anyways....we was watching the Incredibles in our room when i noticed a smell....it was like somebody was smoking in our room.......we'll me and mrs stonfiesta dont smoke.......and it was a non-smoking room.....it wasnt coming from the room next door and no-body was outside our closed room window....then i noticed there was a fairly big gap at the bottom of the door, i bent down and the smell of smoke coming into the room was ridiculously strong.....i hate the smell more than anything. I found out that what happened was that people were leaving there rooms and going to the outside of the end of the corridor leaving the outer building doors open so they could check on their kids who they had left in the room on there own. so the smell was being carried down the corridor into the other rooms.......we was the third door down i think, not sure how far the smell got down the rest of the corridor...it made me feel sick.....i had to put some towells down on the floor trying to block the smell coming in but it didnt work very well. Got to say This ruined my time in the hotel......i spent most of the time inside trying to smell if it was happening again....i also spent a lot of time leaving the room and closing the door to hopefully give the smokers the hint....but that didnt work.

So i would have to say......if you hate the smell, dont stay at the santa fe. Disgusting.

p.s. thats a rant without all the other problems with the room. I know you get what you pay for but the difference between the 2 star santa fe and the 2 star cheyenne is unbeleivable. We wont be staying there again.

rant over, TTFN,

p.p.s (is that right??) hd footage of our trip will hopefully be available by the end of the week.

Shame this spoiled your stay. I hope you brought it to the attention of the management :)

we stayed at the S.FE twice now and honestly thought the rooms were excellent! We are non smokers and had no problems in that area what so ever:thumbsup2

S. fe does get abit of a slating on this board though!

I was going to take pictures of things and post them all on here.....it would have been a seriously long rant if i started a thread about it.......not sure if mrs stonfiesta has said anything in any of her posts. I didnt really want to post stuff that lovers of the santa fe might be "offended" by.

I would probably say, not including the smoking problem that the room look and theme is superb.......its just the cleaning and up-keep that i found really bad. heres one point........i had a bath....got in and layed back and noticed so much dirt and mould and scum in places where you wouldnt normally see......it was filthy.

i've stayed at the santa fe probably 20 or so times, and I think that the hotel is good, but REALLY depends on what room you get (and in some cases, cleaners!) on 2 or 3 occasions mum and I have been really let down by the shabbiness of the room, and one time we even had ants in a room where the telly wasnt working, so we switched. However on the whole, we usually get a lovely room overlooking the river if possible, although I agree the Cheyenne is a higher calibre of hotel - though the bunk beds do my head in - literally!

We just had a discussion about smoking in the waiting lines and rooms on another forum. Believe me if words could kill I’d be dead right now.
The general smokers opinion is we non-smokers are a pain in the a……. and shout keep our big mouths closed.
They have every right to smoke wherever they want and if we hate is well that’s our problem.

The only way to solve this problem is that Disney has to forbid smoking in the whole park just like in WDW.

Its sad but through.

is that really the case in WDW??

I just don't know if this would ever happen in DLP, to ban smoking ANYWHERE in the resort. I can understand that smoking bothers non-smokers, and I too find it incredibly off-putting standing in a queue where someone is smoking (even smokers don't like this!), but I don't think Europeans are as anti-smoking as Americans, excuse the general comment, but having visited DLp and America both several times as a smoker, I felt almost persecuted when smoking in New York, but everyone was very au fait about it in DLP.

I think it is a matter of respect - smokers should have designated areas, or at the very least should demonstrate some curtosy and smoke out of the way of non-smokers.

This is the smoking policy in WDW.
And my personal opinion, after bringing four loved ones with lung cancer to the grave is that smoking is okebut in your own house. The time that we did not know that cigarettes kill people lies far in the past. Sorry but that’s my personal opinion

i am sorry to hear about your loss, and my family has suffered something along the same lines, so i understand your stance.

i guess theres no perfect solution, but i would be quite happy with the WDW solution...not sure if unregular DLPers would be though!

I totally agree. Although im a non smoker and dont like smoke, all of my family smoke. I feel sorry for them with the whole ban thing because there is just no proper designated areas, they are expected to stand out in the freezing cold and rain (im on about in the uk).
But i think its fine if DLP decided to ban smoking just so long as they have proper sheltered areas for it and not make them go completely off site because that would put a downer on their holidays too.
I remember years ago too in WDW, we were sat down outside on a bench, in a very open area and a guy sat down and had a child and asked my mam to stop smoking, which is understandable but then she looked and his friend was standing right beside them smoking and all his smoke was nearer to the child! He didnt ask his friend to stop.

I have to agree with you there. I've stayed at Santa Fe 4 times and I thought it was charming. I'm staying at cheyenne this time but I may very well stay at Santa Fe again when I go next October. No complaints from me!

I have to say that we stayed at Santa Fe a couple of years ago and there was nothing really wrong with it, we did have an unpleasant smell in the room on and off which sent me looking for a dirty nappy left hiding somewhere, but it came and went and I seem to remember another DISer mentioning a similar problem which we put down to drains. Other than that we had no problems with the hotel at all, but I have to say I don't really like it and by that I mean it's design doesn't appeal to me.

Bear in mind you can get shoddy housekeeping at any of the hotels though, I was quite displeased with the standard at SL last time but I'm looking forward to going back there again in October.

and if it was a choice between staying at Santa Fe or not going I'd choose Santa Fe and if I had to choose between offsite and onsite at SF I'd choose Santa Fe.

One other thing we had a fabulous time at the bar one evening too, with DH singing Elvis songs on the mike, I'm sure they put something in his drink.

As an exsmoker myself can I just say you get good and bad smokers, even when I smoked, I never smoked in our rooms or anywhere indoors or out where mine or anyone else's children were and it gets my goat too when people smoke in line, I did have an altercation with 2 young girls at BTM queue line last time. I smoked 20 a day but I was still capable of waiting in a line for an hour without one, it's just inconsideracy on the smokers part and the only way around it is to ban it and impose the ban strictly.
