My remote won't work with our Genie garage door

Go online and see what you can find. Our garage door kept mysteriously opening - decided that the remote was shorting out. I was able to order one direct from the manufacturer.

Could it be the battery?

New remote, or old remote? Our wasn't working, and we bought a new battery, found out that wasn't the problem. We bought a new opener at a home improvement store, and I was able to program it by looking at the old one. It wasn't Genie tho.

There were tabs inside near the battery that could be moved. I just copied what was in the old one into the new one.
