My Rant: This should not be a designated smoking area in the MK!

I too would love to sit down in that area but don't because of the smoke and I don't really like sitting in the seating area above because the smoke rises and I hate the taste of smoke on my food, even when I was a smoker I hated it!

I never understand why proprietors put smoking areas below non-smoking areas I thought everyone knew that smoke rises!?

That is exactly what I was going to say..."Smoke Rises!". I have seen this in shopping malls also - a designated area that is in an area lower than the main floor. It would make so much more sense to have an elevated area, wouldn't it? Perhaps they think that it allows the smoke to float more freely over a larger area? Seems as if it would go up above people that way. If they want it better contained, perhaps an enclosed area would be better and have a filtered ventilation system. Whereas that would be too costly, how about putting an area at the end of some of the alleyways along Main St.?
I know smokers like to indulge after a meal, but I'd prefer that smoking near an outside food stand wasn't allowed. The one situated close to the Dole Whip stand has bothered us.

It doesn't matter where the smoking sections are put, someone is going to have a problem with it.

In the parks, I don't even notice the smokers. To busy, but we stayed at POR last year and hated that the smokers were right on the main walking paths. Not only is it not good for everyone else, the smokers feel uncomfortable trying to smoke and not not blowing smoke on the people that come by. There has to be some courtyards or some out of the way area in each section that would be better.

The only workable solution I've seen elsewhere is enclosed smoking lounges. I've seen little gazebo-type structures that are pretty and have seating and ventilation but keep the smoke from drifting to bother the non-smokers. I'd love to see Disney install some nicely themed things like that. They could blend right in to the surroundings.

I've never seen the gazebos, but I can't imagine Disney is going to spend money on them and if they did, I would only give it a couple of days before you would see posts saying "I want to sit in a gazebo, it's not fair that the pretty new gazebos are for smokers."
