Today Jaki informed me our DVC contract had closed. I know many here wonder about timelines and wanted to share ours.
We went to Disney 8/5 to spend a week using our waterpark/DisneyQuest annual passes. We love Disney--have had AP's, parkhoppers and waterpark aps several times each.
We usually stay offsite because of having 5 in a family. (My theory is pay half as much so you can go twice as often!)
Well, dd 20 and I have this habit of leaving the waterpark in the afternoon to eat lunch and walk around the Disney resorts we have not been to. On Monday the 11th we went to Old Key West. Somehow we got to talking to this greeter guy named Allen who told us about DVC. Now, I HATE the timeshare desks in the lobbies of all the offsite hotels. My family laughs at me because everytime we pass, I tell them we are not interested, are going home tomorrow.
Allen scheduled us for a tour at SSR that afternoon. I called DH on cell and after reminding me how I hate timeshares, said he would rather not go but we could go get info.
We did the tour and I don't know why but we were just not interested in buying AKL. I think I see the waterplay area and imagine tons of little kids--we are past that age and want a little more restfulness. The parks are high energy and I want to relax at the hotel.
I talked to a good friend who loves Disney as much as me. She led me to here and the other DVC site. I started looking into resale that night, wanting to make the decision to go through the guide at DVC or resale before we came home. Our guide had told us the incentives were only good until we checked out of our hotel on Wednesday, so I had to work fast!
We narrowed our home resorts to OKW or BWV and decided to go resale. OKW was the financially wise choice; BWV was the emotionally fun choice, and this family of 2 accountants ended up taking the fun route.
I talked with **** at **********.com a few times Wednesday as we drove home and again Thursday. He helped me determine points needed, which home resort to choose, offers to pass ROFR, and a zillion other silly questions. I talked with a couple other places, but they took a couple days to get back, and I figured if that is how they were before the contract, how would they be after? I had read a few posts here about bad experiences and wanted to limit my chance by giving business to the one who returned my calls promptly.
**** advised us what our best offer that would pass ROFR would be and we emailed the offer to him late Thursday the 14th. It was presented to the seller on the 15th. This guy had a few contracts for sale and figured he would sell what he could and take the last one off the market to keep. Well, that was the one we had offered on. Thursday night there were 2 BWV contracts with 150 2007 points and one with 133. When he called at dinnertime Friday to say ours was off the market, I said we wanted the other 150. It was sold and so was the 133. **** said if we could give him till Monday, he could find a similar contract. It was weird to us how fast the contracts with 2007 points were selling. We sat down to dinner very sad. He called before we were through to say he had found one. He knew the seller would not take what we had offered on the other one, so he told us what it would take and we offered.
Saturday the 16th he emailed us the contract which we signed and faxed back. Off to Disney for ROFR on Monday the 18th. I was not worried about ROFR because we paid a little more than many recent contracts. At $2 a point it was only $300, so not a lot when you look at 30+ years of vacations. And yes I will be riding the coasters with my great grandkids. LOL
On Tuesday the 26th I was thrilled to get the email from Jaki we had passed. Again not that I feared Disney would reject, but very pleased it went faster than expected.
Last Thursday Sept. 4 I got another surprise email that contained closing docs. We printed and faxed Friday and wired funds. This morning, Wed. Sept. 10, I got the email that we are closed.
Four weeks ago today I was sadly driving home from a great week at Disney. Today I own my own tiny piece of the magic and will be booking future vacations very soon.
We are thrilled with our decision to buy DVC. I wish we had done it when our kids were younger. We are very happy we chose BWV. We are also totally pleased with using **********.com and would use them again.
