I hated the idea if Disney naming movies after park rides. Now they are naming them after lands? Really?? I want this movie to be as successful as "Haunted Mansion." But if they strike gold with another pirates franchise, I hope they will put all the money it makes into a much-needed Tomorrowland refurb at Disneyland. But please, for the love of god. No Clooney animatronics in the park.

Haunted Mansion's box office doubled it's budget so it was financially successful, but reviews were downright horrid. I think Tomorrowland has the cast and crew to make it a financial and critical hit.

It could be an interesting movie. Based off of that article I can't say I have a feeling either way yet.

Tying the movie into an existing property gives it a built in audience.

Take a look at the top grossing movies of all time. Most of them are either based on existing properties, sequels or sequels to movies based on existing properties.

Yup ... One of the few upcoming movies where I have complete faith in the creative team behind it.

I don't know where the current Haunted Mansion project stands, but I still want to see Guillermo del Toro + HM

You do realize that the this movie has almost NOTHING to do with the theme parks, right? Whereas the other movies you mention were based on theme park attractions, this movie is based on a genuine ORIGINAL IDEA. That men of science in the '50s created an area where science could flourish, this place being known as Tomorrowland. That Walt Disney named his theme park area off the "real" place. It's supposed to have a feel of many of the sci-fi movies of the 70s/80s, like "Close Encounters" or "ET", or my thoughts I think we are seeing something in the vein of "The Last StarFighter".

We should all root for movies based on original ideas to flourish and be successful. Don't get me wrong, I love the many of the Marvel movies, but the box office is becoming one superhero movie after another. Sequels and "Reboots" are safe, but they rarely surprise.

In addition, this is from Brad Bird, who not only hasn't made a bad movie but has somehow only made GREAT ones. (Iron Giant, Incredibles, Ratatouille, and M:I4) George Clooney I also feel as an above average taste in selecting projects.

This is one of the few upcoming movies that has me genuinely excited. I can't believe we haven't seen a trailer yet.

Ok, I get it. I'm a troll because I state an opinion. I've long disagreed with Disney naming movies after theme park attractions. Naming one after a land is lowering the bar even further. But I am ignorant. Whatever! If the movie has nothing to do with the theme parks, I'm sure there are a thousand other names they could have gone with. But you are the expert, right? Not quite the expert that George Clooney obviously is. Just more of an expert than me (although I don't claim to be one). Am I not entitled to an opinion just because I don't drink the Kool Aid? I'll accept that my opinion may not be popular. But that doesn't make it wrong either.

That seems like the definition of an inflammatory post, so I questioned whether you did it just to rile up others or were sincere.

I apologize if it was my response to you was too harsh, and you certainly are entitled to your opinion. However, I would recommend you look beyond the title when deciding if a movie is worthless or not. I will agree with you though that they shouldn't put an animatronic George Clooney in anywhere!

Interestingly, I was in actual Tomorrowland last November and they had the Carousel of Progress closed down for some second unit shooting on this movie.(I didn't know it was for this movie until later.) People in old-timey clothes were all around. That and a big craft services spread. CM sources told me Clooney and Bird weren't around that day. The next day they were shooting down at NASA/Cape Canaveral.

I think you read more into my OP than what I actually wrote. The paraphrasing in this response is a reason why. I won't rehash what I wrote or try to clarify it. You or anybody are welcome to re-read the OP, and maybe you will get what I said. But please don't try twisting my words around to make your comments read better. It makes you look "ignorant".

I understand a visceral dislike of movies named after something that they are very loosely based on. For instance, the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs has virtually nothing to do with the book. I avoided seeing it on that reason alone. But I appreciated it for what it was once I finally did watch it with my kids.

I don't think Tomorrowland will be a flop at all. Given all the talent attached, and how eager the trailer made me, I anticipate this being a big movie next year. And as you said, if it is wildly popular, hopefully this means good things for the real Tomorrowland.

I'd like to say another thing....naming the movie "Tommorowland" in my view does nothing to HELP the movie. I think they will get as much a response as the OP has, versus people saying "Oh boy, a movie named after a theme park!" and wanting to go to it.

Of course, it's possible marketing folks find naming it "Tommorowland" peaks peoples' interest, but the actual marketing is what makes them decide to see it or not.

I'm going to try to stay positive about this. Can't say I was crazy about the HM movie, but who knows. I doubt it'll end up with PoTC's kind of success, but here's hoping for the best.
