This is very long, feel free to skip any section!

I just got back from POP Century late Monday night. :guilty: I just wanted to share my impressions for anyone who might be trying to decide if this resort is right for them. This was my second time at this resort.

Check-in: We checked in at 11am after arriving via Magical Express. Pop was the first stop for Magical Express. There was no line at check-in and our room was ready! I asked the CM if this is typical. She said since it is such a large resort as long as you don't have a specific request you can generally get a room at any time of the day.

Room location: When I booked all that were left were preferred view rooms, so that is of course what I booked. We were in the 60's section, building 4, floor 2, room 4265. It was very quick to the food court and the buses but way too close to the pool. If possible I would never stay this close to the pool again. There was noise well past midnight and the music they play at the pool daily started at 8am and was audible from our room.

Room condition: I have to say that the beds were terribly uncomfortable. There were bedsprings sticking out and they dug into my back all night. Other than this the room was perfectly clean and nothing was missing/broken that I noticed.

The room size: We just had 3 people in the room (myself, my mom, and my sister), but I would never stay in one room at POP with more than 3 unless there were small children involved. It would just be too crowded. The 3 of us had a hard time finding sufficient space to store our clothing. The closet and drawer space is minimal.

Buses: I can't really comment on the bus situation as we only used the buses once before we were scared away! We went out to the bus stop at 3:45 and got in line for the Magic Kingdom bus. At 4:10 we were still waiting. The area where you line up for the MK bus was completely full and overflowing onto the sidewalk. The man behind us went inside to see what was going on and came back saying that the transportation department had been alerted to the problem and a bus would come shortly. About 5 minutes later a bus came. It filled to capacity and people were left waiting. Overall we waited 45 minutes for the MK bus. I didn't tell this story to scare people as I hope this is the exception and bus service is usually much better.

The food court: We ate breakfast in the food court every day and lunch one day. I never had a bad meal! Some things I tried were the calzone, pizza, waffles, and the breakfast burrito. I will be posting restaurant reviews on the resaurant board. Each morning we arrived between 9:30 and 10 and with the exception of Saturday and Sunday morning it was never crowded. Even on Sat. and Sun. the lines moved quickly and it didn't take us any longer than 10 minutes to get our food and sit down. I think the food court is one of the best assets of POP, it is so huge and has great variety, I loved eating here. Of course, the refillable mugs were a huge money-saver.

My overall impression: I will probably not stay at POP again before trying All Star Music or Movies if my trip calls for a value resort. My main reason is the noise. I would just like to see if one of the All Star's were quieter. But, other than that I would have no reason to not go back.

Here are some pictures of the room:

Great photos.

Sorry you had a noise issue.

I am glad you enjoyed the decor at Pop. :thumbsup2

I <3'd the pics!! Pop is one of my favorites to stay at!! [=

Oh man I DEFINATELY wanna stay there when we go next fall... the more I see of the POP the more I want to stay there!

HI,
Great trip report, but sorry about the pool noise. I've stayed at the Pop twice and both times standard room requested a lake view, top floor for the QUIET! Both times got a great room from which I could see Illuminations and WIshes and Fantasmic. WIth the Lake view it just doesn't seem a value resort.

Here's what my view was like...and aside from those crazy toilets that threaten to pull you down the drain, there was no noise whatsoever!

It seems that everyone with a pool view gets a crummy mattress. Ours wasn't luscious soft, but certainly tolerable. Glad that despite the problems, you had a good time at WDW!

We just got back and had pool view. We had two rooms and no complaints about the beds here. And we never waited more than 5 or 10 mins. for a bus.It was our first time staying at Pop and we just loved it and will be staying there again. Glad you had a great trip anyway.

We always stay at Pop and have never had a problem with anything - we LOVE it. Noise has never been an issue probably because we always get a room in the 80"s (never a pool side room) or 90's ; it is a farther walk but it is nice and quiet. :thumbsup2

That's great! For some reason I thought the Goofy pop-jets were the only place for little ones. Thanks.

I heard that they classified more rooms as preferred at POP recently. Maybe that is why only preferred was left when I booked, which put us so close to the pool. In retrospect I wish that when I checked in I told them to put me in a quiet standard room and upgrade someone else to my preferred room even though I was staying on the preferred rate. Our first stay at POP we had a first floor room in the 90's section and it couldn't have been quieter. I will definitely make a request for a room that I think will be quiet if I stay at POP again.

The toilets were crazy. My sister went into the bathroom and then flushed and then I heard her say "well, there goes my soul." I was so confused and she informed me that the power of the toilet was so strong it must have sucked her soul out. She's a goofball. So, the rest of the trip we called the toilets the soul-suckers. :rotfl2:

I think the fact that it was the baby pool contributed a lot to our noise. It was literally right outside our room and little ones aren't quiet and they get up early!

Thanks for the pics, I am looking forward to our stay next October, but I will request an away from the pool location.

This is a bit off-topic but what exactly are those buildings? I saw them when I stayed at POP but had no idea what they were.....anyone?

Btw, to the op, nice report and great pics. I stayed at POP and really like it but I agree, I don't see more than three people staying in a room there - it does get a bit crowded

Those buildings are the unfinished section of Ppo.

This was published in June 2006 from this website:

After the strong success of the All Star Resorts, it became clear to Disney management that more "value level" resort capacity at Walt Disney World would be a good investment. Having more inexpensive rooms on-site would bring more customers through the gates to stay for longer duration visits, rather than staying off site at the chain motels on the 192 and International Drive strips.

Construction for the new Pop Century Resort, began in late 1999 and continued at a steady, if not breakneck, pace for almost two years.

Located just South of Caribbean Beach Resort off of Victory Way, the new resort was expected to be the perfect place for sports teams to stay while competing at various tournaments at the nearby Wide World of Sports. The influx of amateur softball and baseball teams, cheerleading and dance squads, and fans of the Atlanta Braves (who make Wide World of Sports their Spring training home base) would certainly fill this new resort's rooms as soon as it was built.

Then came the tragedy of 9/11. As our nation mourned the loss of heros and innocent civilians to the dastardly attacks on New York and Washington (not forgetting the patriots on the flight that "failed" it's mission when it crashed in Pennsylvania), going on vacation to visit Mickey Mouse became much less important. More families stayed home or took shorter, local trips for vacation in the two years or so that followed.

Without the need for the extra capacity, construction on the Pop Century Resort buildings was put on hold and the buildings were mothballed. It wasn't until late 2003, just in time for the Christmas holiday week in fact, that the Classic Years (depicting the 1950s, '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s) half of the resort opened. The Legendary Years (depicting the decades from 1900 through 1940) remains incomplete and unopened with no published plans for completion.

There have been rumors that someday Disney may finish that
area and put Family Suites in there.
--------------------------------------

Here's a link to an article that talks about the unfinished section of Pop becoming suites:
It has photos of how the unfinished section of Pop looks.
*NOTE:Remember it is just a rumor about that section becoming Suites.
If you really want to stay in a Family Suite --All Star Music has them now.

Yes, there seems to be a trade off with the preferred rooms. On the one hadn they are closer to the main building, but they are noisier. We have stayed at the fifties lake side before and that was lovely and quiet. Another time we were way off in the 80's building, bottom floor, right next to the parking lot. At first I was not thrilled, but it turned out to be the quietist room we have ever had at any WDW resort. Plus, we drive so it was more convienent for us to be right by our car.

I appreciate the review. We're going to be there in February and are looking forward to our first stay in a value resort. It seems funny to me that a "lake view" isn't a preferred room. I just booked a standard room and didn't put any requests in. If we want a quiet room, what do I ask for? It's just me and DD12 (DH isn't a WDW fan). We don't mind walking to get to the pool, etc. We'll also have a rental car.

Thanks for the help.

No matter where you are in the resort you really don't have a far walk to the main building (Everything Pop), or the Hippy Dippy pool. If I am remembering correctly all of the 60's and some of the 50's and 70's sections are preferred. So I guess you would want to request a room in the 80's or 90's. I would request top floor to ensure you don't hear people walking above you. Hopefully some more people can give additional input.
