My Points account disabled - HELP!

I received an email from membercare@globalemailcompany.com telling me my My Points account as been disabled due to some confusion over my recent redemption request. It states the redemption request was cancelled and the points returned to my account. They are requesting I fax them a State or Federal ID with my name,photo, DOB showing, all other identifying info can be blacked out.
Has anyone else had such a request made of them? Why would they be asking for this information?
I hesitate to send this information because, although my My Points account has indeed been disabled, the email does not come directly from My Points. They did, however, provide a My Points email address: mops @ mypoints.com to write if there are any questions.
I have just recovered my hard drive after a major virus. (Thank god my daughter's BF is a computer science major. I hate to think how much money it would have cost me to get this repaired if not for his talents!) So, you can see why I may hesitate to forward such personal information via the fax to a possibly unknown source.
Any insight you can provide would be greatly apprecaited.

I've read on the mycoupons board that several of their members had gotten the same kind of email and have gotten the matter straightened out by emailing the mypoints staff. I'm sure if you explain the situation and that you never did anything to defraud the site, you can get your account reinstated. I think that they basically want to know that you are a real person, managing your own account.

Hope this works out for you. It may take a few emails, be persistant.
 
My DH and I had this happen. Our user names are real close and we redeemed into the same Hilton Honors account. When I explained the situation and that we were both on the honors account in accordance with the hilton rules they had no problem. We were never asked to send them any information though. I would just black out anything really private. They may have another member with the same name and just want to check things out. I think they monitor their member accounts real close just to make sure we are all on the up and up. This is what helps them stay up and running. You probably just got caught in the net to be checked.

us!!! hey i'd send them all sorts of id for 50.00 which is what he was redeeming for!
 

There's a lot of that going around. Mypoints disabled my account for no apparent reason and I missed at leat 150 Max points. They have not responded to my emails yet and I had over 1600 points and had read over 160 of their stupid emails. I am honked off.
 
They finally contacted me and they also want a copy of my DL with my name, BD and photo. I'm not sure if I'm going to be a "turkey" like nancycels' DH or not. I'm positive I did not give them my real name or BD to protect my true identity :). Oh well.

Update! I sent them my DL with all almost everything blocked out. They reinstated my account today, but did not include any additional points as promised. I think that I must have missed about 200 points in the last 5 days since I completely missed all the 50 point Maxs :mad:.
