My pictures from 12/11/04 Magic

wow...what AWESOME pictures you took! i'm borrowing some for my scrapbook if you don't mind. we took lousy pictures!

I really liked your photos. You took pictures of some uncommon things... The theater ones came out great. Mine came out a little blurry especially since I wasn't using the flash. I could tell you didn't use a flash (at least I think you didn't)...

They are beautiful! They brought back some great memories.Where did our week go?You have the cutest little boys!

REALLY beautiful photos. I'm curious about the ones in the theatre. I thought they asked that no photos be taken during the shows??

I am so impressed. I'd love to hear about the lenses you used. I have a Nikon N75 with a 35-300 Tamron lens. I'm pretty happy with the lens, but I've noticed a big problem when I try to shoot without a flash. That long lens is really keeping the light out of my camera!! Do you have any suggestions for me? I hate to admit it, but sometimes I miss the little 35-75 lens I had with my Canon.

Thanks so much for sharing your pictures! :)

(Hey, just noticed you're a North Carolinian too! I'm in Raleigh-- hi neighbor!)

They ask that no flash photos be taken during the shows. I did not use a flash for my show pictures.

For all the photos, I used a Nikon D100 with a variety of lenses. The D100 is a digital SLR and is similar to the Nikon N80 film camera in terms of capabilities.

For the night time pictures, I used a tripod, small apertures, and long exposures.

For the theater pictures, I used no flash as requested and tried a number of different lenses though the ones that worked best are my 50/1.4 and 85/1.8 with ISO speeds of anywhere from 800 to 1600. I used aperture priority and would spot meter off the brightest part of the scene - typically a performer's face or costume. I also used tried some zooms that are capable of a 2.8 aperture but again, the best shots came from my prime lenses.

Amazing photographs, you achieved exactly what we were after. The characters will be amazed and delighted to receive their own personal copies, all credited to you. You are the Maaaaaaan! Well done, not only have you have made my DW very happy, but you have providec us with a valuable insight into the ship as well and what its interior spaces actually look like. I can only think you were wandering around the ship at some unearthly hour to capture it without fellow cruisers all over the place.

Have a very happy new year

Thank you for the compliments. :)

Any chance you received the other photos I sent a few days back? I've been having some email issues so it's not clear whether they made it over to you or not.

Can't imagine what you would not be happy with...the pics are great!!! Thanks for sharing.

I agree. Thankfully, they look more like their mother!

No the only ones I have seen before today were the 3 that you posted on the other Dis news group. I sent you an E Mail in response to those, which perhaps you didn't receive; I'll resend for you - it includes a picture of the doting parents that all this fuss is over! Like you last post I think DD gets her looks from her mother...or was it the milkman?

LOL! Regardless, thank the Lord for good lookin' wives, daughters, and sons. :) Even if He has to use the milkman (or UPS man) to give 'em to us.

I did receive your aforementioned email. I'll dig up the reply I was unsuccessful in sending and try again. I've got more pictures for you beyond those shown here and will share through another channel.

Sea Breeze, I think. The bass player was cool; he really hammed it up for me when I was taking pictures.

these are without a doubt the best looking pix I've ever seen of a DCL cruise...I forwarded your thread to a friend of mine taking his family on their first DCL cruise 1/6....

I loved the pictures. Mine turned out terrible. I am looking for a new camera, now I want what you have :)

What was it again? I am thinking about getting a Canon Rebel SLR camera. I hope they take that great of pictures!!!

A Nikon D100 and a variety of lenses: a 50/1.4, an 85/1.8, a 17-55/2.8, and a 70-200/2.8 VR. I believe my best shots in the theater were with the 50/1.4 and 85/1.8. A 50/1.8 would be an acceptable and inexpensive alternative to the 50/1.4.

I'd like to think the quality of the pictures also had something to do with the photographer and not just the equipment. ::yes::

Note that some of those night and interior shots are exposures up to 10 seconds, so a good, steady tripod is required.
