My Ph.D. Program

Hey,

At 10:12 AM today, I received an email from my department chair that the department has voted to dismiss me from the program. I was given no rhyme or reason, but I suspect it is because my views were different from theirs. Now, middle-aged, I'm stuck with starting over with who-knows-what-else. The reason I am posting here is because I need to vent and I can't bear to do it to my family this close to Thanksgiving.

Sorry to hear this,,and I agree with @FlightlessDuck -- 30 isn't middle aged, I am in my 60's, and I consider myself to be middle to lower-upper aged~

I'm sorry that happened but don't you think it's better to reach out to your advisor instead of assuming the reason? As far as being stuck with starting over, I know a couple people who were dismissed from their PhD program and have led happy productive lives in their field even without their PhD's.

People lie in their profiles (especially with identifying things like birth date) to attempt to maintain privacy.

Of course, people also lie in their posts.

Can't you, like, petition the Dean or someone else in the admin office or something? What are the reasons listed in your student handbook for being dropped from your program?

You are right. Both are true. Names change from one day to the next, circumstances change, professions change, etc. We have probably seen it all.

Can't you reapply elsewhere? As long as you weren't expelled for some type of misconduct, you should be able to continue your Ph.D. somewhere else.

Wow! I don't want to ask you what your obviously "radical" views were but gosh what doctorate program were you in?? How much longer did you have to go to complete your degree? As long as you didn't do anything illegal just finished your doctorate elsewhere like a PP stated.
