Ok...its not much, but I feel good about my 'pay it forward' of the day...

I was coming home from Target when it started raining pretty hard. Down some back roads, I saw a middle aged woman humped over, wet and limping. I drove slowly passed her as to not splash up water on her, and I looked at her face. I don't know what made me feel it was 'safe' because I was alone with my DS, but I backed up and asked her if she wanted a ride.
She apologized for being wet as she got in the car and apologized for messing up my seat, and apologized for looking the way she did and apologized for me going out of my way for her.
I told her it was fine..the rain came out of nowhere, the seats wipe off and she was on my way home....
She was carrying a Kroger bag with 2 prescription bottles in it... and she was complaining about not feeling well and her feet were killing her. She thanked me repeatedly for that mile drive and when I pulled her into her driveway, I saw a broke-down car with a handicap bumpersticker. She said "God Bless You" and I told her to have a good weekend it was no problem.

Pay it forward is one of my favorite movies, and a wonderful motto to live by. Our local radio station was filling peoples tanks as a suprise and asking them to pay it forward how they deemed fit today.
I think if everyone did one small good deed a day, the world would be a better place. It makes the receiver grateful, and it makes the giver feel good.

I'm going to attempt to 'Pay it forward' daily with some simple task. I challenge everyone here to do the same :grouphug:

That was very nice of you. I hope I would do the same if it were me. We are so afraid of everyone out there, it stops us from doing the right thing sometimes. God Bless you, and in your honor I will try to find something nice to do for someone else today!

I love Pay It Forward, too..but I can't watch the very end of it..it just seems so unfair!

Yay you! :) I always tell my kids it is easier to be nice than it is to be nasty and sometimes even the simplest things can make someone happy. When we are at WDW and give folks fp's and they thank us I always tell them to pay it forward it they can and make someone else happy.

This world needs more acts of random kindness! :thumbsup2

I am a bit emotional today but your story touched my heart and made me teary eyed. What a true act of kindness!

I dunno, it was a nice gesture but somethings are better left "secret". Of course that is JMHO

The only time I have EVER given a ride to anyone was a situation like yours. I was driving to a nearby town and was about 19-20. It was around 100 degrees. I passed a woman, probably close to 50 y.o. who was walking awy from her broken down car. I knew she was at least 2-3 miles from anywhere or anything. She was fairly overweight and I figured the heat would make her pass out in no time. There was no shade to be seen.

I stopped, backed up and asked her if she needed a ride. She told me she had been on her way to visit her mother in the nursing home. I knew where it was....On my way, but a good 4-5 miles further on. She would never have been able to walk that far in the heat, as she was already red in the face and out of breath. I told her to get in and she asked if I was sure. :rotfl: She was so thankful and told me a few people had passed her by. So I took her to the nursing home and she called family from there.

Yes, she could have had a knife.....But in her condition, I could have taken her. :thumbsup2 And I couldn't leave her by the side of the road to fry. :confused3

Nice gesture --- probably lucky you didn't get shot. Remember it only takes one mistake to change one's whole life ...

Chose your pay it forwards wisely ...:thumbsup2

My father always taught me to do good things for others without reward to get your reward in heaven. His father would help people and never tell anyone else about it. He actually sent money to build an orphanage in Lebanon that not even his wife knew about it. The only reason why we know about it today is because after he died, my grandmother received a letter from the orphanage.

With that said, OP, I am glad you posted. You have inspired me, and other, today. That, too, is a good deed.

Sorry, but I just don't think it was a very smart thing to do, especially if you had your son with you. My DH would have been furious with me, and I wouldn't blame him.

That being said, I'm certainly not against nice gestures, you just need to think about the safety of yourself and your family first. Your child is too young, he needs you to make the smart decisions.

I loved that movie too - until the end. Just goes to show you that no good deed goes unpunished.

I try to do things like that too...but I would NEVER pick up a stranger, regardless of how safe they looked if I had my son in the car.
By myself - I have done it. There was an elderly man wandering around the mall parking lot, freezing cold, carrying his wife's purse and a shopping bag, completely lost because he couldn't find his car and she was waiting by the door. So I told him to hop in (he actually needed help climbing up into the SUV) we would drive around until we found his car, or mall security to help him. After a few minutes, I handed him over to the security guard's care and off I went.

But I NEVER in a million years would have stopped with my son in the car regardless of how safe he appeared.

Good intentions, but pleeeeease be careful.

I understand the caution to take heed that is being given. Sometimes, though, there are situations that present themselves if we look outside our own needs/wants where we can take the opportunity to help someone else, as we would hope that someone would help us if we needed it.

You are an inspiration and I thank you for sharing your story . I am a true believer in what goes around comes around. Someday we'll be judged by our works on earth, no matter how small the contribution. Godspeed ^i^

Awww, that was a sweet gesture!!

Someone said it only takes a second for it to change your life, yes, that's true, but that second could also change that persons life for the better as well. Just a simple act of kindness could give someone hope. You never know what someone is going through and just that one random act can totally change their perspective.

I know some others have disagreed with you, but I understand. I have done this myself, *with* the kids in the car. We had stopped at a gas station to get some ice cream cones. An older lady was inside using the phone and having no luck. She started crying and my 9yo spoke up and said, "My Mom can take you home!" and *then* he turned to me and asked "we can take her home, right, Mom?":goodvibes what'er ya gonna do. We all piled into the car, three kids with drippy ice cream cones, me and the little old lady. I think she was more scared than we were

I don't know. I wouldn't have picked up some biker dude, but this felt right. I guess she could have killed us all with her orthopedic shoes.

i think you are correct..... and don't keep it a secret. people need to hear this more than they need to hear about all the crap that goes on in this wacky world. thanks for posting.
