My OCD is showing! How do you keep the room "organized"?

HI all!

I'm a bit of a maniac when it comes to clutter in our hotel rooms. The best tip I received when we went on our cruise was to use a hanging shoe organizer, the one with many pockets, and hang it on the bathroom door to keep things tidy and accessible. I still have it labelled and will be using it on our trip to WDW.

What are your tricks?

That is also my favorite tip. We use that for all sorts of things such as meds, make up etc. The second thing is to unpack and organize first thing. Everyone gets a drawer or two and suitcases are stowed away. The closet /dressing area with a shelf is where our snacks/breakfast foods go. If we have a room with a storage/entertainment area, we find a place for DS books and toys. We also take one of the collapsible clothes hampers for dirty clothes and at the end of the trip, dirty clothes go into one suitcase and any clean clothes another. We find a place to lay out everything we will need the next morning as we always are at rope drop. The last tip is to not to over pack. Winter trips we wear jean and hoodies a couple times, and only take one or two pairs of PJS and shoes.

clutter drives me batshat crazy.

first up - don't bring much. the less you have, the less clutter.

second - unpack all. We hang up all shirts. Bottoms, socks, undies, etc. all go in drawers. Suitcases get put on the luggage rack and become the laundry basket. All 'stuff" we accumulate at the end of the day is gone through - maps, receipts, etc. Stuff to keep goes in a ziplock (big gallon size one), everything else is pitched.

We bring very little for bathroom products - toothbrushes, pastes, brush, lotion, and my hair binders. So barely anything on the counter.

That's all I have. I refuse to overpack.

I like to pack an array of ziploc bags in different sizes for storage of snacks, clothing, etc. Also, I would organize my boys' clothes (dressed alike to help me keep track of them) in a Wal-Mart bag with a label through the tied handles so I knew what was in it. This was most helpful when we would be in different places from night to night, but it also helped a great deal to keep things organized if we were in the same location for a period of time. The then empty bag was re-used to store the dirty clothes from that day, and with the label removed from the handle, I knew it was to go right to the laundry room on arrival at home.

I pack each person's clothes by day in a separate ziplock (including socks and underwear). I unpack suitcases first thing and all ziplocks go in the drawers. I bring pop up hampers and dirty clothes go in there at the end of the day. The ziplocks make getting dressed each day easier too. I haven't done the over the door organizer. I've been meaning to try - just haven't gotten around to it. I am looking forward to reading more tips!

We too have done the outfits in a ziplock bags and it is a HUGE time saver and very organizational for children!! It's good to have a "drop" basket aka somewhere to leave buttons, keys, change, etc. in one spot so that it is there from day to day. I also agree with others about unpacking as soon as you get there, it starts your trip off right :)

x5 on unpacking right away. The ironing board, if set up very low, makes a sizeable shelf below the hanging clothes. Shoes fit beneath. Each of us has a skinny packing cube for socks, underwear and pjs, and I bring a small folding mesh hamper for dirty clothes. The beverage tray on the dresser is the landing spot for items that go out the door with us like sunglasses, wallets, watches, jewelry.

It's not OCD. ;). My hubby actually packs a suitcase when we go in the RV...and lives out of it!!?? :confused3. There are four empty drawers and a closet, but we get to step over a suitcase vomiting wrinkled clothes. Drives me bonkers.

We bring a collapsible, hanging (sweater I think) shelf and use that to setup our "pantry". We stay at a value for 14 nights so we have lots of snacks and such on hand.
Also bring one of those collapsible fabric bins (that go in those cube shelves) and use that as a toy box. Even if we don't bring many toys with us we sure do accumulate a lot while we are there.
New for this year (so hoping it works) i got three little plastic bins to go on the table. One for each of us to put our junk in. Last year the table just became a heap of pins, change, fast passes (won't have that problem this year), sunglasses, etc. I am hoping this will keep the table more useable.

We also do the over the door shoe hanger. That really helps with clutter. I also bring along some of those mesh fold up baskets. Good to put our dirty clothes in . Lots of times we will do laundry when on vacation - nice to come home to all clean clothes.

I can't stand clutter either but I think its relative. We don't spend much time unpacking, organizing etc. We usually put the suitcase on a stand most hotels provide. We unpack and hang any clothes that wrinkle and we may or may not put the rest into dressers. We have a small bathroom bag we sit in the corner of the bathroom counter and place soaps and shampoo into the shower. Shoes are always put somewhere out of they way. I'd say 10-15 minutes tops after arriving at our room we're ready to head to the parks or dinner.

I can't stand a messy room.

We pack enough clothes for half of the trip and do laundry half way through. We unpack everything and hang all shirts/shorts/pants. All undies, jammies and swimsuits go in the drawers. One drawer is for all the misc stuff. The luggage is all stored stacked together in the bathroom area. We take a laundry bag for dirty clothes. Shoes are stacked as many as we can under the nightstand.

Collapsable storage containers for the hotel room.

They are AWESOME! Easy to pack all folded up & then I put it on the top of the dresser in our room & they are the perfect "catch-all" for loose change, extra maps, mementos, etc. All those odds & ends (we call it pocket debris) that gets spread all over the room & drives me nuts.

I've heard from others that they also use them to hold socks, bathing suits, etc. above the hanging rack in their rooms. I thought that was a great idea - they make them in a bunch of different sizes, with & without inserts that divide them into sections.

We got ours at the Dollar Tree so for $1 each, I picked up every size they had for future trips.

Oh, and since we drive we use them for the ride there & back sometimes too. Each kid gets their own for their snack/gum/pen/notebook/ipod/book/magazine/whatever so that things don't go rolling loose across the van floorboards & they can actually FIND everything they are looking for when they need it. They take backpacks for their "stuff" - these are more like their activity stations while we are in motion. If they finish the book, it goes back in the bag. When we get to the hotel these get emptied & used in the rooms so they each have their own place for things.

Did you purchase those recently, I could use those for several differnt things but I have never seen them.

I think I picked them up at the end of the summer because we used them for our early Sept trip, then I went back & bought them in every size after that trial run was a success. I found a LOT of uses for them, for travel & home.

At Dollar Tree they were hard to find in some locations so I had to ask an employee for help. I think we found them in the housewares area in one store (by the laundry clips, etc) and with the craft supplies in another. Best $1 I spent on the trip, lol! I know they carry a lot of stuff seasonally, so if they don't have them in stock now it might be worth asking if they plan to restock them in the spring or summer.

I use the collapsible fabric bins for each person and extra ones for park stuff. Command hooks to hang up toiletry kits in the bathroom, keeps the counters clear.i pack in packing cubes and zip locks. Each kid take their own back pack for their stuff- not clothes but books, stuffed animals, drawing, game boys etc. we pack a octopus power strip to charge everything and keep all the cords in a fabric bin.

Best tip- if you forget a charger, ask the front desk, they are the most commonly left item in hotel rooms, I've donated a few my self!

Ok, so I am OCD, because when I pack, I pack my clothes from the last day to the first day of trip. Along with this, my underwear etc go into baggies so I grab the baggie and first layer of clothes. I usually have 2 suitcases and the one not filled with clothes ( my surprise bag for kids, shirts etc) I have a laundry bag and when I put my dirty clothes in it, I fold them so they lay flat. I do not take my stuff out of the suitcase. My shoes sit on top of the one suitcase.
