Despite what my post count indicates, I've been here since 1999 and I think this is the most disheartening post I've seen yet. Perhaps it did not come across as you intended but your continual flippant attitude about the whole sad situation is discouraging, to say the least. And if you truly did turn and say "you gonna follow me home so I can make you a sandwich?" well then I just don't know what to say. If you really can't understand what people are telling you here and continue to belligerantly defend yourself, then there's no more to say.

I tried to make something that happened today a funny story for a Friday night on a message board. I've since tried to explain my post, only to be called a horrible person, God will judge me, I couldn't seem like a worse person if I tried....

and if some jerk is going to try and follow me down the stairs to the subway station like I've said before he was doing, then yes, I'm going to yell at him/insult him and make him go away.

Maybe you should learn proper spelling before you make fun of the homeless...last time I checked there were not many people making jokes of the homeless situation...let's hope life keeps treating your good so we can enjoy you posts here.

While I wouldn't have given the guy a price for the food, I certainly wouldn't have given the food to him either. Grabbing someone is a no-no, and I'm not going to feel charitable toward you if you do grab me. I would have yelled at him to take his hands off of me.

It appears to me that many people have very unrealistic pictures of the unsavory characters that inhabit urban areas. I've seen this action:

Street guy: "I don't mean no disrespect, but could you give me that food."
Lady: "Sure, here."
Street guy grabs the food and the purse on her arm and sets a new land-speed record.

And since we're quoting scripture: "Judge not, lest ye be judged." "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Now lets all go get a drink of water and move on.

I defended you a few pages back, basically saying that none of us was in your shoes, it was probably scary for you and that I probably wouldn't have given him the food either. However, I am disappointed in some of your responses since then.

People here are totally flaming you, which I don't think is very nice; they could phrase their criticism a little more constructively. However, you are being very defensive and are acting just as mean. You should just stop posting and let this thread die. I'm sure you are a very nice person, but by being so defensive, you are making yourself look like a meanie.

LOL.....just called DH over to look at this thread. He said OP's BF must be a real "wuss" for having his lady show him up by yelling at and insulting a homeless man and not standing up to him since he was so aggressive and threatening.

Often times when I am in the city (san francisco) or Berkeley, and I see a homeless person, I give them my coffee, tea, leftovers. It just feels like the right thing to do.

And I also agreed with her that he was in the wrong to begin with for grabbing her and that I didn't blame her for not giving him the food, given the situation. But she wants to see how everyone is picking on her. I asked her how she would have reacted if he had of asked her for the food without grabbing her arm, but she didn't respond to my comments or questions, except for one brief comment, in spite of the fact that she said she did.

You know, I wouldn't even have blamed you for not giving him the food. As someone who has been robbed at gunpoint, I would not have liked being grabbed either. He was totally in the wrong there. But your attitude, the ridicule, all the stuff that came after that part, those are the things that are stirring this reaction you're getting here.

Had you posted that you had a scary encounter with an agressive homeless man who grabbed you, and that you didn't want to give up your leftovers after that, without any snide comments about the $10, or the sandwich, etc, etc, the reaction would have been different.
