While at Downtown Disney on our recent trip I was somehow convinced to try growing Plumeria. There is a garden stand across from the Christmas store (I think). Anyway, the woman working was so nice and informative. She gave me all the information I needed to grow this beautiful plant from what looks like a stick with eyes. Keep your fingers crossed that in 2 years I'll have a bloom.

P.S. I think her sales pitch worked because she thought I looked like Jodi Foster!:scratchin

2 years?? It takes 2 years to bloom? You are more patient than I, Mary! :)

I think Jodi Foster is a very attractive (not to mention extremely bright!) woman. Lucky you, Mary!!! ::yes:: :sunny:

Yup 2 years. After you cover the bottom of a pot with 2" of white rock, you plant the stick :p in cactus mix, then cover the soil to the top of the pot with more white rock. Keep it in south-facing window (unless you live somewhere warm enough for outside). It should grow leaves the first year, and if you are lucky, bloom the second.

I love the smell of plumeria so I thought I would give it a try.

I've planted lots of 'sticks' through the years, and some of them grew to be bigger sticks. :p I hope your stick blooms, Mary! :)

I don't remember seeing your siggy pic when I posted yesterday. Now I can say I indeed see your resemblance to Jodi Foster!! ::yes:: Cool!! You have a very nice looking family also, Mary! :sunny:

BTW, Welcome back!!! I hope you had a great trip?? :D

I just changed the picture. Our MNSSHP pictures came in the mail yesterday so I thought it would be perfect for my sig.

Thank you for the compliment. I think I have a nice looking family too.

It does take a while for those plumeria sticks to become trees and to have flowers, but once you have a bunch of flowers, you can make a lei.

I think I ran into the same lady last month. She was complementing me on my necklace - she said it was a "pucca???" necklace and worth money. What do I know, I inherited from DH's aunt. I got her three boxes of "costume" jewelry.

Anyway, I told this CM (she was from Hawaii) that I bought a Plumeria stick when we were there a few months earlier in April of this year. She told me it is now entering the domant stage so, as per her advice, I now have it in a closet. I actually forgot about it now until seeing this posting. I should check on it sometime soon.
