And should arrive while I'm down to the house getting another load of things I need to bring up here and taking care of some business..

Stay tuned for all the whiney posts from me about how I can't figure out how to use it.................... :rotfl2:

I am SOOOOO "electronically challenged"... The tv I have up here has the VCR built in and it bit the dust so my son-in-law brought my late DH's VCR up so I could hook that into the tv.. Took me HOURS to get it to work right..

What makes me think I can work one of these new fangled lap tops??? :lmao:

How exciting!!!

How long till it is delivered??

I have always wanted one....guess I have to keep dreaming.

Because it is even easier than a desktop? It is, ya know! :thumbsup2

Good luck, and enjoy!

Just tell the XP to look like the win 98 and you'll never know the difference.

I get a new Dell every 3 - 4 months for work. Although they keep getting faster they also seem to get more finicky.

Good luck on yours.

I'm sure you don't mean to rain on her parade :(

A lot of places buy Dell's and are very happy with them. If they didn't get a lot of happy, repeat business, they wouldn't be in business. I agree that sometimes it's the luck of the draw, but according to the computer mags, Dell is still up there in a quality machine (and it's the number one machine that the State of NY uses). And although my last one wasn't a Dell, several have been, and the next one (desktop) prob will be. Some have luck with one brand, some with others. But this has already been ordered and shipped, and I"m sure you only want her experience to be a good one.

I love my laptop :goodvibes
I bought it 5 months ago, best toy I bought for myself.

Well I'm back at the lake - I have my lap top - and I'm sitting here using my old computer waiting for the cable guy to come and hook me up..

Not that I'm "intimidated" or anything, but I had the lap top for two and a half days before I even opened the box - LOL.. :rotfl: Finally opened it up last night and about fainted when I found no Owner's Manual.. Eeeeek! Called my DD and she walked me through setting up my screensaver, the background of my desk top, etc.. We were on the phone till midnight! LOL

This morning I was looking over some things again and I see that the Owner's Manual is actually installed on the computer - which you can bet I'm going to be printing out.. :teeth:

The only thing I have found that I don't like about it so far is the Corel Word Perfect program.. It's so different than the Microsoft 2000 I had I don't know how I'll ever adjust.. I do a LOT of letter writing so I have to figure it out somehow.. Any chance I could intall that Microsoft 2000 on the lap top? Oh - and I played Solitaire until 1:30 this morning and it's hard to get the hang of using two fingers to drag and drop the cards..

Otherwise, it's awesome!!! I love the size of the screen (way bigger than my old clunker here) and the colors seem much more vivid..

I also decided to just bring my old HP printer from home until I have a chance to really shop around and compare prices.. Now to hook it up, I bought the Belkin USB 2.0 cable (hope that's the right one) and the Belkin FastCat 5e cable so I can move around from room to room with the lap top.. Did I buy the right stuff?

Was also thinking about asking the cable guy if he could hook this old dinosaur to the internet too but it's SO old, it may not be possible..

I have a computer carrying case (came free when I bought some stuff from Viking Office supply) but it's not padded.. Should I buy some foam or something to put in there?

DD sent me up here with all kinds of games; music CD's and DVD's - but of course I don't have a clue what to do with them.. :teeth:

I was going to start doing some painting this week, but something tells me my projects are going to be put on hold till I'm done playing with my new toy.. :)

First thing I would do would be to dump (remove) Word Perfect and put your office 2000 on it. Or you can have both..I just hate cluttering up with something I never use (and I used that way before I used Word). They allow you to have it on one computer at a time, it doesn't matter which one. It will work fine on it.

Are you sure that is a computer case from viking? The cases I got from them are all soft "briefcases". Even if it is, you have too much invested in the laptop to not have a good, padded case. I'd pick up one, especially since you got the laptop so you could tote it. You can get them at reasonable prices at all the usual officed supply stores.

I did have to laugh when you mentioned the manual..it's been awhile since they actually printed those up for us.

You can't hurt it..just keep playing around. It should have a few tutorials with it under the help. It's supposed ot rain this weekend, you'll get lots of inside time to play!

And why aren't you using your laptop on the dial up? It will prob work faster on the dial up than your old one.

To make it look like your old windows, go into the control panel (start button, then control panel) and then Display---- Under the Themes Tab there should be a choice, and you would pick windows classic.

Maybe you hit Viking when they were giving away cases, but if it's not padded, I would not use it.

To use your computer as dial up, just plug in the phone cord (I'm 99% sure it would have come with a modem..since sometimes you won't have road runner), click on your aol, and go to it. Since you haven't been set up for RR yet, you should only have one choice of how to get on line.

That was never my intention. I love the newest technologies....

You'll love it and be up and running in no time. Once you learn to master the mouse pad, its gravy. Have fun. :thumbsup2

I'm using it right now and can't believe I can sit here in the recliner - instead of at my desk - and DIS!!

All I've done so far is load my old Microsoft 2000 program on it (I much prefer it to the Corel) and I've played some Solitaire - LOL..

Have all kinds of games my DD sent up for me - DVD's - CD's - and haven't tried any of them.. Tomorrow I'm going to try to hook up my printer and see how that goes.. :)

I'm assuming you have a wireless router? The invention of the gods. I love my laptop. Took my some time to get used to it, but wouldn't have it any other way. Have fun.
