First off, I am NOT a photographer. I am trying to learn (ISO, White Balance, etc.) Ugh. Not getting through to me.

Anyway, I'm trying to decide whether to keep this camera. I really like the way it takes pictures. They look fantastic on the LCD screen when I preview them, but really washed out when I look at them on my computer. Is this normal? Also, the weight of this camera is 14oz. which is much heavier than I am used to carrying in my fanny pack. One of the best features of this point and shoot is the quality of low light pics on Auto setting...which is probably the setting I would use the most.

Any thoughts? Should I keep it or keep looking for a lighter camera that performs as well? It was $500.

I'd personally get the Canon S90. Still had enough control but actually has better lowlight ability than the G11.

However, can you post some examples of pictures you have taken. Most consumer monitors can be somewhat unsaturated due to too much brightness. Especially laptop screens. It'd be an easy check to see if the pictures are truly washed out.

I only use the LCD to see if someone has walked in front of the camera while I took the photo. ;) The histogram will show if the exposure was good, it can be brought onto the LCD by pressing the DISP button.

The S90 was appealing but I need an optical viewfinder so the G11 was the only choice. The S90 has a faster lens at the wide end but the advantage shifts to the G11 at longer focal lengths. Of course the S90 is a lot smaller and lighter while the G11 has more dedicated buttons and dials.

If smaller & lighter is the main factor then the S90 is for you (but still rely on the histogram for checking exposure).
