Hubby and I celebrated or 20th Anniversary in May and he upgraded me, from a 50D, to a Canon 7D. I love it and I love him for knowing that I would love it more then jewelry.

However, since day one when looking through the eye piece there have been fibers in the viewer. Should I send it back just for the fibers or try to clean it? I never had this problem with my 50D. I'm not sure what to do or if I should just live with it.

Was it new, refurb or used? Are you absolutely sure the things were in the viewfinder when you first opened it?

Do not try to clean it. You're just begging to make the problem worse if you've never done that before. If you're sure they were in there from the get go and it was a new purchase and it bothers you then take it back. Without seeing first hand how bad it is I can't tell you if I'd take it back or not for sure. But people have exchanged cameras for less.

I got a 6D a couple months ago and within a couple days I had dust and a hair in my view finder. I know they weren't there when I first opened it. It irritates me because in the few years I shot with my 50D I had like one spec of dust in there and that's it. But it does happen and it seems like the larger the view finder area the more likely it is to suck up junk in there.

Its was brand new when he bought it and yes, they were on there when I first looked through it. It's not horrible it's only a couple of little fibers, very small but it's just the fact that he paid so much money for it, I expect it to be perfect. I'm not sure if it worth the hassle of sending it back and waiting for a new one.

Do the specks every go away?

Do they show up in the pics? Or just in the viewer?

I agree with you if its brand new, I would want it perfect too.
Whats the return policy at the store you bought it from?

If it was brand new and has a problem like this it could have been a return. Some shops (especially big box retailers like Best Buy and Walmart) put returns out as new. If it was from a big box retailer I'd box it back up and take it back to the store for a swap. Tell them you suspect it was a return and why. And examine the new camera there at the store. Look for signs in the box that it might have been returned.

No, the specs will never go away.
