My Neighbor Vent

The trailer is not a commercial trailer. It is a flat bed thing that he fixed up himself to make it as long as possible. He hauls wood and dead animal during hunting season. No I am not kidding. He leaves them on there for a while so my view get real good during hunting season. I guess because we live in the country that this guy thinks he can get away with anything and he usually does. We don't have neighbors right next to each other so he bothers no one else except us.

Next time he moves the truck park one of your vehicles in the space. I have a friend whose next door neighbor parkes his 2 vehicles in front of his house from 7 am to 11 pm.

Where do you put your garbage cans when it's garbage day? Can you maybe tell him that it's in the spot for you to put them and he needs to move it truck?

We have new neighbors that did this BEFORE they moved into their new build home. They would come by to check on the progress and park in front of our house and their house is across the street from ours. I told DH I guess don't know how to turn around to park in front of their house or come into the development the other way so they are driving on their side so they can just pull up and park. Even when they closed on the house and were moving in they would park their cars on our side. I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it did. I felt like they didn't even know who we were, perhaps we had an extra car that we ALWAYS parked there and they were being rude. I mean, why couldn't they pull in to the driveway? It was odd. They have a two car garage and only have 2 cars so plenty of room for "all" their cars to fit.

So I did two things:

1) I kept putting my garbage cans where I have been putting them for the past 3 years, ever since we moved in to our house and it was right in front of their cars and when they saw how close the garbage truck came to their car I think they started getting the hint.

2) On the day they were moving in to their house I was having a garage sale and needed to move DH's car out of the driveway and parked it in front of their house. Was it mean and passive aggressive? Maybe, but after that I think they go the hint.

So I say water your lawn! Go on with business as usual with your property! There is no reason to stop what you normally do because he parks his truck there. If it gets wet/gets hard water stains, too bad!
We put the garbage out at the end of the driveway so this was not a problem. About 7 weeks ago he moved the truck so he could do whatever. My DH parked our 3rd car in that spot...sat there for about a week. He needed to us it and left the spot empty for a whole 20minutes. It was taken when he returned. Now when the neighbor needs to use the truck he always has someone save it for him so we can't take it back. He is a real piece of work. I would never do anything to vandalize the vehicle and I would never encourage my kids to. But the lawn does need to be watered, we live in a very windy area that always blows the water around when we turn the sprinkler on. A day of scrubbing hard water stains off a truck would make me think of parking some place else.

Does that mean it has NO TAGS? That's like highly illegal to have on a public road.

Have you contacted the city to see if you have a limit as to the number of animals allowed in a household? Many places have these limits and 6 could be close, if not over, those numbers...

I was going to ask the same thing. Our town only allows a maximum of 3 animals (2 cats and 1 dog or 2 dogs and one cat).

Sorry I don't get your vent? The space in front of our house is not designated as a spot that just us or our friends can park in. It's a free spot for whoever takes it for however long they take it and I don't have a problem with it. They did just put in street sweeper signs as a money maker for the city and no one can figure out every single time they come so my DH already got a ticket for that. I have my neighbor next door having parties at their house all the time and they park all the way around my corner house. Oh well they got there first and I don't own rights to the street. I don't understand why people think anything beyond their driveway belongs to them? :confused3

He get a view of beautiful mountains we get a view of his old truck. There is no reasoning with this guy. Right now he is on vacation and is using his 5th wheel and his newer truck so he isn't home at all. But there is plenty of room to put his old truck on his driveway while gone. We can't even water our entire lawn (because it will hit his truck and we have hard water)...or can we :rolleyes1

I would water your lawn... every day. :thumbsup2

I had a neighbor like this, parking literally right by the entrance of my driveway. I live near the end of the road too, so it makes backing out of my driveway difficult. I just would flip on the sprinklers when they would park there, and it went away by itself. :woohoo:

In theory I agree with you, but I also think that someone should not be allowed to keep their own personal property for an unlimited time in front of your home on a city owned street. What if you had a view of the beach out your front window and bought your house because of that Ocean view and someone parked a Winnebago in front of your yard for a month straight?

What is also telling is that the OP said the neighbor noticed the spot was vacant during a 20 minute window, sounds like there is more to the story/history.

In our city, parking on the street is public property. It can be towed if left more than 24 hrs,

I would say "dont sweat the small stuff" and when the spot opens up, take it. Ask him nicely not to park there and tell him why, but beyond that, he is not breaking any laws. If it bothers you that much, park in front of his house. I guess I just dont see what the big deal is?

It has tags. Some of the posters seemed to be under the impression that it was used for business. It is amazing what is considered legal to drive here.

No, that space doesn't "belong" to them but it is more of a matter of being polite. If if I had a view of the mountains that was blocked by an ugly truck, I would be a little ticked off too. Do your friends with the party park their cars for weeks on end so you can't use that space or your friends have to walk a block to get to your house?

My thread states it is a vent. I am venting. It isn't illegal but it is frustrating. Right now his driveway is empty (on vacation) his 15ft worth of old truck and makeshift trailer filled with wood and used insulation is right in front of my house and our truck is parked almost a block away (we live on a very large corner lot and can't park anywhere that would block the view of the street). It bugs me. I do not own the road but it is still upsetting.

It is called simple common courtesy (which is dying a quick and painful death these days), that is the whole point of her vent. He has parked the truck in front of her house (on her side of the street), when his own driveway is empty. Thankfully, my neighbors would ask our permission before they parked in front of our house on our side of the street. On their side, I don't care what they park in front of their own home.

This is it exactly. We have a beautiful mountain view and it is blocked. He still has the beautiful mountain view. I guess you can say we have a history..he has alway been nastly. Example..we turned on the sprinklers and left for a while. Wind picked up in no time (very common here) and some of the water blew on his new wood fence (we were very careful not to get water on his fence but can't control the weather). When I came home I saw this and turned the water off. He comes home...comes over and starts screaming at me that I am ruining his fence and he will sue me if I do it again. The following week he lets his dogs take care of all their business on my lawn. I ask him politely to watch the dogs and he tells me if I don't like dog droppings (my edit) to clean it up.

I've lived in 5 different cities and owned 6 different houses, and in my experience, rotten neighbors are the same everywhere and they never change and they never "get it" (just like some of the posters here). Your only real solution is to move. Seriously.

after hearing all this obviously asking nice to move his vehicle is not going to work....like others wrote, wait for the space to open and get your car in it.....for now I would call the town and say you have an abandoned vehicle in front of your house for (x) amount of days and want it towed...they might at least ticket it....

Well next time I guess I will stoop to his level..something he may understand. Park my vehicle there and if DH needs to use it I will 'spot' him.

I am in total agreement with the posters that said that a street is public property and you do not have control over who parks there. The homeowner does not own the street in front of them and cannot demand others not park there.

If you buy a house with a view over a street, you are actually buying an obstructed view as you cannot control what is parked in front of your house.

However, the fact that somebody parks there would never deter me from normal lawn maintenance. I would not stop watering just to protect the truck. In fact, if the nasty neighbor continued to park his nasty, dead animal filled truck in front of my house, that part of my yard might all of a sudden need some new landscaping that would need additional water to help it get started.

A few thorny bushes right at the property line at the road side might do the trick. Park too close and your passengers can't get out without being scratched and the untrimmed branches could scratch paint -oops.

To continue my snarky side, I would also be scouring Craig's list for the biggest, ugliest, cheapest, rusted out RV I could find. Since it really isn't going to be used for camping, it only has to run well enough to get from point A to Point B. Aqua sounds like a good color. If it doesn't come in aqua, a few spray cans and a homemade paint job works. My huge, ugly, aqua, rusted out RV would find a wonderful storage spot in front of their house. Mountain view now turns into aqua rv view.

Maybe he would be willing to negotiate trading spots after that.

I like this! :thumbsup2 Definitely satisfies my snarky side!
