My Neighbor Vent

4) For all the bashing that HOA's take, this is exactly why I like them. The HOA could (and some will) levy fines for each day after a warning.

We have an HOA and they will do NOTHING about the neighbors who constantly park in front of our house. OP, I sympathize.

He get a view of beautiful mountains we get a view of his old truck. There is no reasoning with this guy. Right now he is on vacation and is using his 5th wheel and his newer truck so he isn't home at all. But there is plenty of room to put his old truck on his driveway while gone. We can't even water our entire lawn (because it will hit his truck and we have hard water)...or can we :rolleyes1

Not only would I water the heck out of that part of the lawn I would start using the trailer to dump garbage, lawn clippings, etc. Do you have kids? Silly string is a LOT of fun, especially when played with on that part of your lawn. It's been awfully hot, water balloon fights are fun on that part of the lawn too. Oh, shaving cream is good too, they can paint all kinds of fun pictures on the road by the trailer and OOOPS they got some on the trailer.

I hope you're joking, because intentionally causing damage to / putting any kind of substance on someone's vehicle (or allowing children to do so) could land the OP in a lot of trouble, even though the truck owner is a jerk.

And, if the kids are playing silly string and get some on the truck, it would be up to the truck guy to prove it's intentional.

Now their dogs are the really issue with me. Everyone moved back in and brought their dogs! There is 6 dogs living in that house! All huge dogs with names like Drooler and Snots. (reminds me of a Christmas story, in fact I now call them the Bumpuses)

I ignore it, but it's starting to get to my husband. He makes a point each morning to walk our dog past their house at 5 am each morning. I swear one day those dogs are going to break through that picture window!

Have you contacted the city to see if you have a limit as to the number of animals allowed in a household? Many places have these limits and 6 could be close, if not over, those numbers...

Most likely, neighbor is allowed to park his vehicle on the street, unless there is an HOA. You are guaranteed to have the space in front of your home reserved for your vehicles only. That's reality. It sucks, yes, but it isn't illegal.

Where I live, you are not allowed to park commercial vehicles on the street overnight. If this vehicle has a trailer, it might be considered a commercial vehicle, I would check on that.

Wow, that stinks. I am just looking out my window and would be really upset if someone parked in front of my house and not moved for weeks...just because they run out of room in their driveway shouldn't mean they get to park there forever. I hope you find a solution, what an eyesore!

In Rhode Island there is law agains parking cars within 5 feet of a driveway (including your own) and within 15 feet of any intersections.
Check to see if you have anything like this where you live.

You should ask them to move again, when they do, start parking your vehicle there. Maybe they'll get the hint?

 Yeah, and I'm sure the trash you mentioned would just "accidentally" get dropped in the bed of the truck, too.

Our HOA doesn't care if someone parks in front of someone else's house... they care about overnight parking in the street (I believe).

OP, maybe it is time to bone up on the township or county ordinances. You've gotten some great ideas about different ways this may not be legal. (ie. overnight, commercial, 72 hours, etc.)

He's on vacation? Perfect time to complain about an abandoned old truck outside your house, IMO. And I'm not sure I understand why he doesn't park it in front of his own house; is he just generally a selfish jerk, or is there some reason why he can't park there?

I think it would need to have commercial plates, do trailers have commercial plates?

Thats what I'm wondering too. Does he have enough space in front of his house to fit the truck and the trailer?

OP, I would explain to him why you do not want his truck parked in front of your house, and ask him if it is possible if he can park it in front of his own house, or in his driveway somehow. If he just acts like a jerk check your town ordinances and see if there is anything you can report him for. Other than that there isn't much you can do since the street is not your property.

Ask him if he can park it in front of his own house. Also, like others have said, check your local ordinances. It's illegal to park a trailer in the street in our town.

I think she did say she had asked him and he blew her off. She does not park in front of his because of growth you can't see the cars. Trailers are highly in demand by thieves. Maybe he figures if he parks it in front of a house with a view a thief would be less likely to take it than in front of a house without the view.

Where do you put your garbage cans when it's garbage day? Can you maybe tell him that it's in the spot for you to put them and he needs to move it truck?

We have new neighbors that did this BEFORE they moved into their new build home. They would come by to check on the progress and park in front of our house and their house is across the street from ours. I told DH I guess don't know how to turn around to park in front of their house or come into the development the other way so they are driving on their side so they can just pull up and park. Even when they closed on the house and were moving in they would park their cars on our side. I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it did. I felt like they didn't even know who we were, perhaps we had an extra car that we ALWAYS parked there and they were being rude. I mean, why couldn't they pull in to the driveway? It was odd. They have a two car garage and only have 2 cars so plenty of room for "all" their cars to fit.

So I did two things:

1) I kept putting my garbage cans where I have been putting them for the past 3 years, ever since we moved in to our house and it was right in front of their cars and when they saw how close the garbage truck came to their car I think they started getting the hint.

2) On the day they were moving in to their house I was having a garage sale and needed to move DH's car out of the driveway and parked it in front of their house. Was it mean and passive aggressive? Maybe, but after that I think they go the hint.

So I say water your lawn! Go on with business as usual with your property! There is no reason to stop what you normally do because he parks his truck there. If it gets wet/gets hard water stains, too bad!
